Is ben avery the one on Usery pass .. It was slammed this past Saturday! I just happened to be riding on by.

That's too bad. Didn't the federal directive explicitly state that gun ranges are to be considered essential services and should remain open?

Traded email with one of the range masters today. They are hoping to reopen May 1. In the meantime, the employees are still working doing maintenance during the closing. At least they don't plan to lay any off at this time..

Admin, I'm pretty sure they closed down due to it's pretty much impossible to keep everyone separated that golden 6 ft.

I'd think they could just use every other shooting lane... that should give more than 6 feet... [shrug]

Every other bay was my thought as well, if fact that would be nice. I always hate getting a table next to an AR-15 with a brake....when that happens I pull out and shoot my AR-10 with a brake. :o

I was hoping they would reopen , but alas - nope.

Sucks because I have been buying stuff the last few weeks and want to shoot the new stuff.

Lol... anytime I bring my kids to shoot with me there, I almost inevitably get the table next to some guy with a 300WM and a muzzle brake on it.

Can't stand shooting right next to them; ugh. Not pleasant and it has really turned my kids off. If there are more tables, I always ask to be relocated, but often it's too packed, or we end up next to someone else that has a brake. They are much more prevalent now than they were 10 years ago, it seems.

You are correct. I guess they don't care.

This sucks, even though there are many who don't like Ben Avery, I happen to enjoy this range (except when next to the muzzle break guy) I was a volunteer RSO there for a while and enjoyed that too. Here's hoping that it reopens on the 1st of may.

So in spite of being declared an essential business, they closed.

What a bunch of horses patoots.

Just checked: https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce

Under the section "LAW ENFORCEMENT, PUBLIC SAFETY, AND OTHER FIRST RESPONDERS" it has this:

Workers supporting the operation of firearm or ammunition product manufacturers, retailers, importers, distributors, and shooting ranges.

Note that it is just considered a "guidance" from the Federal Government, but it was strong enough that it got the LA County Sheriff to revise his order about closing gun stores in LA County.

It's interesting that Ben Avery is closed, but Rio Salado is open....I was shooting there yesterday. They are making people skip every other bench so there is distance between everyone, but they are open for business. The latest member newsletter sent out 2 days ago stated they are cancelling all matches, but the public range and member ranges are open for business.

Unfortunately when you go every other bay that means you have 20 people spread out all over the place. That would take a lot of range master to be on station.
