I believe non-english speaking immigrants are hindered, rather than helped, when speaking and reading english is not required. I know there are organizations funded to teach english,... seems like it's just a matter of making the effort to learn, imo.

"As part of a larger survey of Hispanic immigrants fielded in late 2015, Pew Research Center asked Mexican green-card holders why they had not yet become naturalized U.S. citizens. The most frequent reasons centered on inadequate English skills, lack of time or initiative, and the cost of the U.S. citizenship application. These appear to be significant barriers, as nearly all lawful immigrants from Mexico said they would like to become U.S. citizens someday."

More like they don't want to learn and want us to adapt to them. Also a lot of them are not capable of learning as they have no education at all. I was operations manager for a company about 20 years ago, I decided to start a English program. Customers were complaining about not being able to communicate with foremen or workers Within two months all the guys stopped going and I was labeled a racist for starting the class instead of learning Spanish myself. I was fired for trying to help them better themselves.

Aaaaaaaaand the hate comes out.

I hope we can stick to posting relevant info and not "immigrants need to speak English" speech.

Stupid comment from a reverse racist.

My parents are Spanish speaking US Citizens and took the naturalization test in English having only received a GED back in the 80s. They can speak English and do so on a daily basis however Spanish is their first language and feel more comfortable speaking and reading it because they have a better understanding when it comes to legal matters. Being their first firearm purchase I want them to have a clear understanding of the laws and responsibilities of our wonderful 2nd Amendment. That's all.

Regardless of how you feel about immigrants, I'm surprised (or maybe not surprised) there aren't more members (and people in general) willing to help others LEGALLY capable gun carrying persons. It seems that anytime the words Spanish or immigrant appear on this forum the bashing comes out. Perhaps I'm wrong and your hearts are truly in the right place.

I agree that learning to speak English is a vital part of being/living in America. However I believe a softer approach would be better suited when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. Us gun owners are often stereotyped and looked at in negative way. Perhaps we could win a few minds through education even if it means sharing information in a foreign language. After all our constitutional rights are not given on the basis of what language we speak. The sharing of information doesn't hurt anyone in this case. It only helps educate and empower those who may not share our love for the 2nd Amendment. That in itself is a win for everyone.
Why should we be expected to accommodate others who come here and do not want to adapt to our language and ways? It used to be a matter of pride to come here and learn the language. I'm sure YOU could help them understand the laws and do the forms. Should not be the responsibility of the ffl to learn their language. You could read/translate the gun laws book for them.

if you want to live here maybe they should learn the language.do we not send enough tax payer money on these folks.
Exactly, as well as not making companies have to translate every label/manual to another language and provide someone to translate.

This is a free country if you dont like it leave.it does not help your cause when 80 % of the crimes commited with guns are by folks of latin decent.and as far as morons are concerned takes one to know one butthole.
Some of us on this forum have been around long enough to remember Dealers Outlet, I probably bought 50 guns from them. They employed a guy to speak Spanish for those who spoke no English at all. I finally quit buying there as I was tired of the cops always coming in asking about a Spanish speaker who legally bought a gun and used it in a crime. I still remember the day two rival gangs showed up at the same time, told Steve you are on your own and was gone, that was my last visit. If you are not a citizen and do not speak and understand the language I am very comfortable with you not being allowed to own a gun in this country.

I am not going to get into the immigration/language debate and unfortunately I don't know where the resources can be had that the OP was looking for but since it turned political against his wishes I will offer a political opinion from a 2A perspective .... being a gun forum and all.

Simply ... having more people that actively support your position is a good thing. I know being in AZ its all about those damned Mexicans and their Spanish but being from back east I have watched lots of first and generation groups speaking a variety of languages and it usually takes at least 2 generations before that group has made its assimilation complete outside of parties and festivals when suddenly they harken back to their "roots."

Being a supporter of 2A and wanting the fight to stop restrictions to go forward well into the future, Gun training, Education of our rights and fostering a healthy love and respect for 2A in a group the size of the Hispanic population seems to be a positive. More people that if/when they are eligible to vote will cast votes for people who have similar feelings regarding 2A is a positive.

Keep your eyes on the ball .. if groups like AZCDL and NRA can grow membership by 10%, If politicians receive pro 2A votes from a new base by attracting an ever growing hispanic population and informing them of our rights .. plus plus plus.

Ding ding ding!

Most of the participants in this thread are failing to think strategically. A modicum of effort would need to be made on the part of these organizations to translate materials, but the payoff to us liberty-minded folks could be substantial.

[Just spitballing here, but what if the NRA and other gun rights groups made their literature available in a range of world languages in an attempt to sway opinion amongst non-English speakers both here and worldwide?]

Oh my goodness, that is actually reasonable and thoughtful! :)

But while we are on the subject of translation, if you want to stop Islamic terrorists, just put up Gun-Free Zone signs in Arabic!

Special treatment for one ethnic group, above another, for their political support or vote, is not the USA Republic way.

Democrats give illegals exemptions to our laws and tax payer dollars for their vote,... which will also contribute to the death of this country.

I think some of you guys are missing the point of the OP or ... just have an agenda you cant get past.

No one ... at least not me is suggesting that the Government foot the bill or in any other way put one group ahead of another. There is already way to much government.

I completely agree that would be an insult not only to our country but to all the other populations that don't get equal treatment. I was once part of a team that determined what languages might be used on signage in public institutions. My argument was always ... English and nothing more because by inclusion you create exclusion so who do we not give a shit enough about not to have "their" language.

Having said that .. the Korwin book is awesome. I am surprised that the publishers don't offer it in other languages. The NRA should offer something in other languages.

This is not about assimilation. I have to ask some of you die hard 2a supporters.

So a guy is here and a citizen he took his test but his English is still weak. Its enough to get him a job and function but .. there are still years of getting good with it and it might be his kids before the family is truly fluent.

Fuk him? He is not one of us?

He came from China, Korea, Mexico, Italy .. waited, paid fees, took his test but if he is going to read something as important as law he would rather do it in a language he is more comfortable with but ... WE .. the gun community dont want him. Fuk you .. your not like us?

Sorry but I think that is ridiculous. We are under constant attack. We should be out there like the Religious people knocking on doors and trying to win over new recruits, hearts and minds.

We have to own the dik who shot himself in the penis in a supermarket but the guy who took a chance on everything to become an American .. well we don't want him. He talks funny.

I swore I wasn't going there but ... I AGREE .. non assimilation will ruin the country. All you have to do is read the news coming out of Europe. But there are reasons that it is taking place there that isn't just about country of origin. That is a whole different thread.

Yes as an American Citizen or an aspiring American Citizen you should learn English.

In the meantime .. all you guys that can trace your roots back to the mayflower .. have at it .. the rest of you .. German, Asian, Italian, French ... your fore-bearers didn't come here and learn English in a week and they conducted business and lived successful lives because ... yes .. the community to which they belonged helped. Read some history.

To all those that crank out .. "Learn English" like its a food recipe .. how many languages have you mastered that you know how long it takes to become truly proficient.

I have lived in Italian neighborhoods with Italians that barely could string a sentence together in English .. there were Italian organizations that helped them get a grasp. Seen the same things with Asians, and Spanish speakers.

But no .. the gun community .. the new lepers if you read the news .. is to damn special to accept others. Just stupid .. that is how you fail. This is how you lose rights. You become such a small minority that no one cares. There has been more done for Transgender rights in the last 5 years than gun rights.

Me .. I say if I were the publisher of the Korwin book I would print that sucker in 20 different languages.

If the Bible which many of you/us have read in part or in full can be translated into several different languages .. I think AZ gun laws is ok.

If you are not a citizen .. fuk you you dont get a gun .. if you are a citizen but still struggling with the language and are interested in your 2a rights .... Welcome brother I got some shit to share with you that you wont believe.

I got a secret .. understanding your rights in this awesome country is part of assimilation.

To the OP .. I apologize. You asked a simple question and asked for this not to become political .. I wish I had an answer for you and if my Spanish were better I would try to help out.

Curt,

I know people that just moved here from non-English speaking countries that can type in English better than you. You shouldn't be speaking to anyone about learning English if you simply cannot type it or use proper grammar.

Additionally, I see your post was at 4am. If you were up all night drinking, maybe I will use my beer-goggles to decipher your post.

Delfuego out.

well it certainly does not, lets bring this out into the light, and discuss it, several have gotten a little off track, but by no means is a reason to close it, if you are offended, move on, but its a real problem that some believe exists, and imo does not, so lets go. defend it, show us why, .........................just saying

My wife, born and raised in Mexico, naturalized as a US citizen 8 years ago after being a legal resident for 7 years. She raised a US Marine stepson (my son) who calls her mom because his bio mom, a born and raised red blooded American, checked out of being a parent when he was 5. Her (ours) daughter who is in HS wants to join the Air Force, something she strongly encourages and tells her she wished she could have done so. Her (our) youngest at 11 years old already won 2 state football championships and went national seen twice on ESPN youth football, and wants to follow his oldest brother's footstep into the Marines. Because of her both kids She looks and dresses better than 99% of the pajama/sweat pants/look like shit wearing fatties I see, every where, all the time, can run a 7:35 mile for 5 miles at 41 years old. Besides she's the wife of a born and raised American combat infantry vet (me), voted Trump AND supports the US Constitution.

She's the reason why THIS American family does so well. AND still struggles with English.

So with that said, to those saying what she should or shouldn't do, feel free to PM me so I can be direct to tell you to go f*** off. And if you don't like that, it's a fee country and feel free to f***ing leave or STFU.
