ATVs and highways

Just found out the laws for side by sides are county specific. Like If you are in Pinal county you have to have a windshield by law. Maricopa county you can get away with glasses. Up at Lake Havasu you need windshield, turn signals, tires, mirrors, all of it.

Pinal county says u must have a windshield on your UTV. How many cops would pull you over for it ? I don't know. I know I got pulled over for not having one in gold canyon. I said I have glasses on. He said it not a windshield. I said they meet and exceed dot plastic of motorcycle helmets. He said ya right. I said I will show you. He was hell bent on giving me a ticket for something. But in the end it was just a warning to justify pulling me over. That's my personal experience with the pinal county sheriff's Department

So you are saying my ATV that is licensed by the state of Arizona is not legal in all counties in the state of Arizona ?

No. I'm not saying that . I'm saying different county's in AZ for some reason want more safety stuff on you rig on their streets. I'm trying to get a answer why from DPS.

Then you found a guy that was just yanking your chain. What did you do to attract his attention in the first place? If your UTV is registered as a motorcycle to be street legal you follow motorcycle MVD laws, windshield or goggle.

The only qualification on a motorcycle windshield is that it cannot be a “sport bike” windscreen. If you have one of those 4” or 6” high mini-shields on your UTV, it is not a windshield and eye protection is require.

Counties don't get to make DOT rules, the state does. That cop can pound sand.

However, even though it is legally registered for street use in AZ, don't think you can do the came in CA. SXS are NOT legal for street use there.

I'm waiting to talk to a person in power over these rules so I can get a clear picture and I'm able to have all of them laminated with me to enlighten any police officer that's stops me. The cop stopped me in the first place because he said it looked like one of my tires were low. Now it's a fishing expedition. I knew they were not low hell I run them a little over.

Were you there? Did you hear the conversation between the cop and I?
The answer is no. But it sounds like you know what ever cop is going to say. Huh. Stop pulling my chain.

No need, you described it in your fairy tale and it cracks me up.

You’re the Bad ass tier 1 operator who says FU to officers and Piss off to pilots but a cop stops you for "a low tire, fishing expecition" and somehow that goes to threatening you with a ticket for a non-existent law. You had to act like an ass to draw attention then prove it beyond all doubt during the stop to be threatened with a ticket.

Now you’re here crying about it to justify your inaccurate post about DOT goggle requirement.

We used to threaten the really slow ones with aggravated mopery with intent to gawk. Sounds like it would hgave worked on you.

Do you forget your own posts that quickly?

Always make them street legal and insured. It may be a pain in the ass, but it saved me thousands when I had a wreck the caused me to be helicoptered from Desert Sam to Scottsdale Osborne Level 1 trauma center.
