I shot this one last year at Avery and the backwards version they used to run at Rio Salado. It IS fun, its over very quickly and its very beginner-friendly.

we might run it at PRGC some time too.

That sounds like it would be a good match. I have not shot past about 150 or most of the time, so this would definitely push my limits.

in NRA/CMP, 200 & 300 yds is "Short Range", 12" black (at 200) on a 6' square target is really not too hard to keep them in the scoring rings standing or sitting, even in the black for the prone stages.

The shoot on sunday 19-Aug at PRGC will be very beginnner-friendly, 200yd CMP-style shoot with standing and prone stages, slow fire & rapid fire. I'd encourage you to attend if you want to learn more about organized shooting. I tentatively plan to be there and will coach the new guys.

Bring 40 rounds, eye & ear protection, long sleeves, 2 magazines, a mat or carpet to lie on prone. Binocs or spotting scope to see the marking disk. A pen to keep score.

Any reports on the Arizona Defense Match?

I RO'd the match and here are my observations:

• The match is any rifle friendly. Particularly if it's mag fed.
• Have enough material in your pack to support the rifle forearm. No bipods permitted.
• Pre load your magazines before you arrive. there will not be anytime to load them on the line.
• Most shooters used an AR variant with optics.
• Targets are scored after the CoF is complete.
• Red dot or low power variable scopes are fine for this. As are iron sights.
• The CoF is shot from prone.
• Shooters begin at the 300 yd line and advance forward under the direction of the match director.
• There is a short prep time before the timed string of fire commences.
• Have a chamber flag for moving between firing lines. Search amazon for "chamber flag"

Match runs quickly compared to traditional HP matches.
Have a god zero and know hold over/under and you will enjoy yourself.

To that good info I will add:
You need a sling to carry the rifle between stages. Doesn't need to be a shooting sling, just a carry strap, because you are shooting off a rest (the backpack stuffed with towels or clothing).
You need 6 magazines, each loaded with 10 rounds only.
Keep your magazines in a separate pouch or pocket in the backpack, because you load from the backpack. Stow the empties in a different place in the backpack, so you don’t mix loaded and empty mags.
