Suck My Glock

A friend of mine in Maricopa was gifted an old Marlin 1898 12ga pump-action. I was previously under the impression that only Winchester made pumps back then, as I had never seen one of these until he showed it to me. It occurred to me that it might be something attractive to the SASS folks, since it is just a bit different from the guns usually seen in competition there.
My buddy would much rather have a more utilitarian tactical/defensive shotgun, whether it be something as simple as a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, or whatever. He's interested in maybe finding someone who would trade with him or buy the thing for cash. But we're a bit unclear on the actual value.
I didn't have my phone with me to take pictures of it when I handled it,...but I pulled a few pics off the internet to show you what I'm talking about.
Here is a picture of a nicer condition verzion of what he has.
And here is a picture that shows the condition it is in. There is some light rust in the bore and some slightly heavier rust in a few places on the exterior. Not a collector piece by any means. But if the barrel were bobbed and the thing given a refinish, it could make for a cool plaything at End Of The Trail, I think.
If anyone on here has knowledge about what the values are on these 1898 models, please let me know. Likewise, if you are interested, I can put you in contact with my friend William who has it.
