Just curious as to how many of you guys like to send more than just bullets down range. I recently bought my first bow, and was almost instantly addicted. I know own one compound, one recurve, and have a recurve on the way for my GF. I intend to put in for hunting next year, after I have more time to improve my skills.

I shoot a Prime Centergy Hybrid. I do wish it was quieter but everything that's less noisy is not as nice to shoot. Overall a great bow. When the weather is cooler, I will launch arrows from my porch most nights after work.

I hunted with a bow for many years.
I don't anymore.
I haven't checked the archery seasons lately but there used to be 3 seasons throughout the year to hunt deer. It was nice to be able to spend the time in the field.

We archery hunt and Travel all over the US with the kids as they compete nationally in Archery. Son shoots compound and daughter Olympic recurve.

I killed my first deer with a bow in 1966. Been hunting with one ever since. Had to stop in 2005 because of shoulder problems. So, now I hunt part time with a crossbow. Shooting and hunting with a compound was far easier.

That's awesome!

I've archery hunted off and on for several years and taken a few deer and two elk. Started my two boys out with recurves a couple years ago and stepping them up to compounds this year. Since we didn't draw rifle deer tags, a friend and I will try our luck in the early archery season up north this year.

Love my hoyt. A bow will definitely teach u to hunt, play wind ,be sneaky and get close. Its been since 2013 that I've drawn a tag but I still have hope for one more bull on the wall before I go.lol

Love archery
Learn to shoot between your heart beats

Love the thrill of bush blocking your shot if you were shooting a gun but the arrow will arch over and drop right in on target.

What ever you do while you shoot. Do it the same time every time.

Sprint or jumping jacks until you can barely see or breath. Heart rate high as possible. Grab your bow and shoot. Very important as this simulates really hunting for me. 27 years as my heart still races every time.

Then practice off balance shooting. Have fun pretending to lean around a tree and shoot off center.

Hold full draw as long as possible then shoot.

Also important to practice shooting quickly as possible. Let the arrow fly as soon as it’s on target, don’t think just let it fly.

Learn you distances. Get a bow range finder. Guess the exact distance, not rounding. Bow range finder helped me learn the arch of the arrow. Also really helps shooting up or down hill.

Learn where to hit if you jerk your release. I hit about four inches to the right and two-four inches high. If I’m shooting quickly (moving target) I sometimes aim 4” left and 2” low. If I shoot perfect, still kill zone. Or jerk trigger, it’s a bullseye or close.

Bow setup: don’t max out your draw weight and hurt your shoulders. You need to hold the bow for 1-2 mins at least at full draw

Draw length, don’t max out as if competition shooting. I prefer a little shorter, so I can rotate and shoot easier when off balance shooting

Hope this helps. I can go on and on. PM me if you want more

I haven't shot a bow since College but the wife and I plan on taking some classes hopefully by the summer. I love all things target and body control and really enjoyed my short stint with a bow.

I think, like shooting my revolvers .. I like things a bit more simple and plan on a recurve in my near future.

I dont hunt so it would be for target practice only but am pumped to get started. Hopefully .. UNLIKE guns .. I can buy just one!

I own a gunshop, yet have never hunted larger game with anything other than a bow.
I have a good collection of Matthews and a PSA.
MY first was an old Ben Pearson I picked up in 82 and still use, that thing has decimated the deer population in 37b.
Took an Elk with it 3 years ago.
