Afraid to tear into my inherited prestine Colt Python.

My Dad recently left me a beautiful old Colt Python that has been in the safe for years. It apears to be out of time as i pull the hammer back it "catches". Any idea on where to start or if there is a gunsmith around that specializes in such a gun? My local "tactical" gun store/armorer said they wouldn't touch being afraid to mess up an heirloom.
