What those ads tell me is not that the value of the guns has gone up, but that the value of the dollar has gone down.
 
Who remembers TG&Y? Dad used to take me there as a kid and we found the neatest schit. This ad is from 1974.

This reminds me of when Buddy Hinton would post on Sturmgewehr board. He had stuff (photos, collections and old advertisements...etc.) he would share. Fun times.

And in case you're wondering,...in 1967 dollars, that comes out to about $3500 today.

Yea, was thinking of the price in gold terms, but that seems about right. Rather rare bird at that time, so perhaps that's why the price is higher then we'd expect. Been spoiled by all the "makers" of the AR that have sprung up and the lowering of prices brought on by competition and mass production.
