The quarantine has sucked but there has been some bright spots as focusing on important things as this and being able to spend actual time together as a family and teach him really valuable skills as a teenager.

He isn't a HUGE fan of guns but he knows what they represent and feels safe knowing we have them in the home.

No biggie, It's easy to confuse the two as they take the same mags and all that.

The biggest difference is the composite magpul stock.

Slow things down? My life feels crazy right now! I've got four kids, and I moved them over to a homeschool curriculum. Full-time teacher right here, although, we do some field trips to go out shooting, so that's fun.

I bought my kids both a Henry .22 and took them shooting at age Son 4 and Daughter 7. Harder to shoot oneself with a rifle, they were well aware of what a gun was and capable of. I think it helped eliminate curiosity.

Now young adults and both are very safe and proficient with firearms.

I can’t wait till my boys are old enough to do all the shit jobs my dad made me do when I was old enough. Clean the birds, fish, and guns. Then I get to sip a beer and know I’ve made it.

At our weekly shoot last week, a young man and his momma, were attempting to do some target practice, actually his momma drove him, but after an educational moment, they were asked to join our group, and a couple of the old codgers, helped him site in his fancy 1022, gave him some pistol lessons, tried out some other than his 22 ammo to get red dot squared away, he got to shoot the dances with wolves, 44-40 lever action rifle a couple dozen times, (its a heavy sob, but damm fun to shoot) Momma passed on shooting, but videod jr, doing the deed, so to speak,
have to say , nice young man, had manners, and knew the inportant things about gun safety, so much so, we old boys invited him back, if momma could get him to one of us.
Kid would be in for quite a day as we hit the joint at 630 am and don't generally leave till 5 or so. But hed get to shoot, just about every platform known to man, along with some armory lessons, nothing like sharing what one knows to someone willing to listen

Tering,.... your comment above is most profound and positive, to me!!! I have never commented on posts that announce a members intent to find a 22lr pistol, to teach a first timer,... because it just seems to be such an acceptable approach.

I, for one, would NEVER teach a first timer, child or adult,... to shoot with a handgun,... NEVER!!!

Your statement above, is the first I have read, that I am wholeheartedly in agreement with!!!

That was my first thought was "Where's his father at?" I'm telling you, restoring a fathers place and authority in the home will fix a LOT of problems we are facing as a country.

I bought each of my grandkids a Henry Mini Bolt. Looks like what I was trained on as a kid. Single shot so it makes you aim instead of spray and pray.
