I posted on a Facebook site that I had some 20-round USGI 1918 BAR mags for sale. A guy made me an offer for 20 and I accepted it. He then sent me a check and I saw his mailing address was in California.

I told him I wasn't comfortable sending them to California. He said he would get me an FFL license that I could send them to.

Is this legal????

My gut says to send the check back to him.

Ski, I'm pretty sure the max mag cap there is 10 rnds now. Doesn't matter if sent to FFL or not. Do not send and I'd just tell him I'll tear up the check and done deal.

ETA- Lol, why sell BAR mags now? they'll be worth twice as much in 6 months outside of Cali.
Also, how ya been? I haven't seen you in awhile. 8-)

Thanks. I agree.

Why do you think prices will go up?

Because there is a major gun, ammo, mag buying panic right now. And my guess is those BAR mags are even more rare. I'd wait myself. I don't think prices have have peaked yet

I'd only sell those FTF for cash and not anything to Kalif- if you go thru a FFL, they register the sellers as well as buyers...

You might want to hit up 1bardan+. He has an old BAR. I don't know if he'd be interested in the mags or not.

I emailed him and said that I did not feel comfortable selling them to a person in California so I was returning his check. He replied and said he was a police officer and would send me his credentials and that it was legal for him to buy and to own them. My thought is why didn't he say that initially. The deal is off. Thanks everyone!

SKI save yourself the trouble and ask Dan if he wants them.

It could have been a sting op- or...
as a LEO he isn't required to report illegal activity- or...
he is dirty- which is another reason to drop the deal.
