If we want to "make America great again" now would be a good time to join me in letting the government know it's time to end the war on terror and restoration of all the rights we lost in the mass overreaction to events 18 years ago today.

Thanks

The news media seems to have forgotten that Afghanistan is Obama's War. He campaigned on the slogan that Iraq (Bush's War) was a "war of choice," but Afghanistan (Obama's War) was a "war of necessity." I don't recall any reporter ever asking him "What is so necessary about it? Why is it a necessity?" Everybody just nodded and agreed. "War of necessity, OK, got it."

Where is the candidate who promises to repeal the "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001"? (Is that the most Orwellian acronym ever?)
Where is the candidate who promises to shut down the TSA, fire all the slackers and make them get productive jobs, and stop treating passengers like cattle?
Where is the candidate who will say "There is no airplane exception to the Second Amendment. The People have the right to defend themselves wherever they are. "Shall not be infringed" means "shall not be infringed."

Either too young or weren't paying attention but the loss of our rights started under the "War on Drugs". Where secret warrants were used and asset forfeiture came into vogue.

And no-knock warrants.

When the war on drugs started, if you wanted some marijuana, you had to know somebody or spend some serious time to get it. Other, harder drugs were probably equally difficult to get.

Now, after 50 years of the war, all drugs are super easy to get.

The reason is obvious. When they start the war on drugs, supply starts drying up, so the street price of the drugs rises. When it rises high enough, the smarter criminals jump in for the super big profits. They're the ones who seldom get caught. So, you've got the best and brightest bringing in dope and the supply increases tremendously.

The law of unintended consequences strikes again. Read the book "Snowblind: A Brief Career in the Cocaine Trade" for an true story of how one of the best and brightest smuggled cocaine into the U.S. and only got caught because he got high and loud at a party. If he hadn't done that, he'd probably be in the dope business to this day.

War on Drugs, War on Demon Rum, War on Poverty, War on Terror, War on Gun Violence -- they all end up the same: problem worse, but rights eroded.

its just a plain war on AMERICANS and their freedoms, what a slap in the face of the older generations who gave up so much for what we've had for 50 plus years, and now they wanna, tear it all down
jmo though

Sadly, the generation growing up today will simply accept the conditions of today as 'normal'..because they don't know anything else...Ho hum, nobody cares...business as usual, oh well, that's just the way it is. The Government outlives each generation, to beat down the next one a bit more...

Good intentions is the largest road to no where building company in the history of man kind. They make Strom Thurmond's massive freeways in the no where of the VA country side look like school projects.

If your going to go door to door and kill every member of the tally ban you might have some support. If your not just get out. All insurgencies win if your goal is to destroy the insurgency. They can all wait you out. Death by a thousand cuts. This is clear to any 8th grade history student. Even the Israelis who basically built a huge wall will never stop terrorists untill the terrorists want to.

Our goal was to destroy terrorists and those who hid them. We should have done that and left. Muslims are not like Japanese or European or Koreans where our forces stabilized the country's and regions for decades. Killing each other is a way of life and untill they choose not to do so nothing we can do will stop them.

Look, I'm all for killing religious Extremists as that's the only way to stop them. That said, mission creep is worse than cancer. We can destroy pretty much who ever and where ever we want so theres no need for troops there still. There are no groups to get between to keep them from fighting. It's like saying you're going to seperate a pool full of water and keep it from mixing by putting people in it. It just cant happen.

I'm not young. I still remember buying my first gun from a Sears catalog. 911 just seems like a good place to start. I'd like to go see my son without the very real fear of of having some POS TSA jackboot grab my junk.

Smithers, there are candidates who do promise to do exactly what you said. Their called Libertarians

I am a Libertarian, been one most of my life and never voted for one because voting for one is throwing your vote away.

I know, if everyone thought like me, and most do, they'll never get elected. True. Sad but true. They need to move over to the Republican party, win an election and go from there.

Yeah the war on drugs our own government brings into the country. Then they put people in prison for doing said drugs.

Yep the over 50 years of the War on Poverty has resulted in roughly 1/3 of the US population (100 million people) receiving some form of .gov assistance.

It's a lot more than that, Steve. It's more than half.

https://www.cnsnews.com/commentary/terence-p-jeffrey/521-percent-kids-live-households-getting-means-tested-government

In 2016, according to the most recent data from the Census Bureau, there were approximately 73,586,000 people under 18 in the United States, and 38,365,000 of them — or 52.1 percent — resided in households in which one or more persons received benefits from a means-tested government program.

That's 52.1% of those under 18. My comment was concerning the US population as a whole and is supported by this quote from your linked article.

Table POV-26 indicates there were approximately 319,911,000 people in the United States in 2016. Of these, 114,793,000 — 35.9 percent — lived "in a household that received means-tested assistance.

So a third of the country (~115 million) gets .gov money while on top of that roughly 45% of the US population (~144 million) pays ZERO income taxes.

Flash, Ron Paul is a libertarian who worked inside the Republican party. Did you vote for him in the 08 an 12 primary's? The truth is small L libertarians are as welcome in the Republican party as whores are in church. And what should be obvious to everyone watching is that the Republican party, conservatives, are there just to conserve the last socialist victory. You "threw your vote away" voting for the lesser evil, cause evil is marching foward, and the pace is only going to pick up from here.

Hope you have an exit plan?

Steve and everyone else posting on the state of entitlement in this country, your forgetting the millions of government employees who's jobs rely on servicing the system. The writings on the wall. The balance has shifted and those who rely on the system are NOT going to vote to end it, so you're GOING to pay for it.

You all got an exit plan?

I have some friends , expats, who moved to Mexico. I've seen their digs, visited, hung out with the locals. I can say without a doubt, Mexico is a freer country than America. It's not that they don't have silly, stupid little laws, it's that they don't have enforcement. And where they do, 40 bucks usually takes care of the problem.

Tell'in ya all, better have a plan. The next socialist overlord in office isn't going to be an Elmer Fudd like Bernie. It'll be a Mr or Mrs Stallin. And the options will be submit, become a cop killing traitor like the founders, or leave.

Yes they were!!!!

They were all British subjects, living in a British colony who would have been hung for treason had the revolution failed and to win they had to kill British soldiers sent to the colonies to enforce the kings laws. So they were cop killers.

If things really go to crap here and now, and you choose to stay and fight, whom do you believe you will be fighting against when they come for your guns?
