That is nice to see. I occasionally shoot with most of those shooters at the Rio monthly matches and they help keep my ego in check. I am a good shooter but when you see how fast (and effective) some of them are in person it is amazing. I've completed a stage in what I know is a good time. I just beat most of the folks on my squad.....and then AJ Anthony shoots the stage almost twice as fast as I did.

I used to shoot out at CCML 30 years ago when Leighton Oosthuisen had hair that wasn't white. He was blazing fast then and would make me humble every damn time. I'm sure he'd still smoke me on any stage anywhere anytime.

Cactus Combat Match League. Oldest combat shooting club in the valley. Started in '75. I've been a member since '77. Knew Robbie and Brian when they shot as juniors. We held the USPSA championships here at BASF in '84 and '85. Thursday night matches have been run at the Guard range on 52nd and McDowell, Phoenix Rod and Gun, Federal Correctional Institute and BASF. Got lots of rounds under our collective belts. Pioneered the NRA's Personal Protection program and strongly pushed for CCW reform. Supporter of ASR&PA. Ran Pistol silhouette matches for years. Three gun, IDPA, USPSA monthly matches and specialty matches, including sectional and state championships. Yea, that's "where it's at!"

I used to shoot the CCML matches but shifted to Rio because the Ben Avery shooting bays limited the layout of the stages. The Rio matches can have targets past 500 yards and that just isn't possible for the CCML club. I started shooting pistol and practical matches at CCML in 93 and 94, and shot there regularly for 20ish years. Met a lot of great folks and had tons of fun. However, the CCML bays are limited in ability to provide the same level of challenging rifle targets as the Rio range, primarily relating to distance and targets. And with limited time and resources ($$$ and ammo) I had to choose where to spend it. I should go shoot a Thursday night pistol match again. Just got out of the habit I guess.
