Savage's new straight pull action

Saw the in another forum. Looks like someone at savage accidentally loaded up their product line page before an announcement was made. A few people managed to grab some info before it got taken back down.



Looks interesting. I like the adjustability of the bolt. You can go from left- right handed, adjust the cant forward/neutral/ back. If it has the same action inlet, same triggers, and takes the same barrels it'll be a popular product. If they can get a basic model to market under 800, they'll have a homerun.

What is old is new again. I like it and agree! If they can get all of the peripherals dialed in it could be a big player. Add in that big Rem is out of the new gun game for at least a year...

I don't know that I need one, but I've always wanted a straight pull. I also lamented the fact only high end Euro makers where the only options. At the least, it's nice to have an American made option.

If they do it right, they can also make it switch-barrel conversion for subsonic pistol calibers with short 16 inch threaded barrels. That would be tits up! Bolt base diameter for the entire .308/.30-06 case family of cartridges is the same as .45acp! If Mean Arms ever makes their EndoMag conversion in .45acp for the Magpul AR10 mags,...oooooh, it gives me chills. While bolt base diameters of .223 and 9mm are just slightly different, perhaps they can engineer a solution for that.

223 and 9mm base diameters are close enough to not be an issue.
I could see plinking with a low pressure straight walled cartridge and swapping in a flatter shooting barrel during hunting season.

It looks like it uses a nut system on the barrel at least similar to their 10/110 legacy rifles.

It looks interesting. I like the ambidextrous design of the bolt, but I'm concerned about the maintenance and upkeep of that expanding ball bearing lock system. It seems like it would need constant cleaning to continue functioning smoothly.

I've always hated Savage rifles. They always seemed really cheap to me. Am I wrong, or have they turned over a new leaf?

Finally a US straight pull rifle that isn't a neutered AR with no gas system. I can't wait until that comes out. The only other options are boutique Euro-fag rifles that start around 3K. If it's anything like their ultralite pricing I'm guessing around the 1,200 mark.

I'm hoping for a model with a plain synthetic stock, no cerakote, non-flutted, non-threaded barrel, maybe an accutrigger for under $800. I'm sure they'll have some pretty tricked out models well north of 1k.

I love straight pull rifles. I was sold on a straight pull after my first Swiss ZFK/55 and K31.

I had a friend a Blazer straight pull. I liked it once I got over trying to rotate it like a standard bolt gun.

While its interesting I'm reminded of the commentary Colonel Coopers made about D/A autoloader handguns. That they are an ingenious solution to a non-existent problem. If I needed a a quicker bolt action rifle I think I'd just as soon use an autoloading rifle.
