Who's built one? How did it go and what would you do differently?

I've been looking into doing one, I'm intrigued, but I'd figured I'd ask about people's experiences doing it.

I've built up two so far. The first one was the full size PF940 frame. I researched a lot before cutting into the plastic frame rails. Things went smoothly but after assembling the PF940C (which is a lot easier), I ordered the PF940V2 frame so I can swap parts out of my older one. Had I waited a bit longer, I would've just bought the newer frame. If you can use a drill and a file, you can make one of these run.

I've built four. The version one was a complete disaster. Took me seven range trips and hundreds of rounds of ammo to get the bugs sorted out, then I still had numerous magazine retention problems. After many months of frustration, the rear rails on the left side wore thin and broke completely off. I begged and begged P80, and received a V2 replacement frame for warranty. By contrast, the V2 build was effortless, and it shot like a champ from the start. I had helped a friend build a V1, and he is still having problems, the other two are V2s, and are real sweathearts.

That said, these builds are just too easy. Not much of a challenge. 80% AR15s are a little harder, but oh my-what a mess of aluminum shavings!

Tell you what a fun project is, if you are up to a challenge. 80% UZI. Now there's a fun nut to crack!

Glad to hear V2s are better/easier.
Any issues getting holsters? Have not seen too many.
Still trying to convince myself to pull the trigger and build a compact.

I haven't tried to find a holster yet, but I've seen them advertised. Sorry, don't remember where.

Take the plunge. Something this easy won't be legal forever.

I'm not sure I understand the appeal of these things. Are they in any way better than a factory Glock? Is it just for those that feel the need to "build" it themselves?

For me, at least, there are several factors.

1-Building it myself, my way.
2-Freedom. I don't have to inform the government about every gun I own, so I choose not to.
3-Preparedness. We will someday get another Democrat for president. He/she will be mad as hell and will do anything possible to take our 2A rights. My opinion, of course.

4-It makes Liberals INSANE. That alone, is good enough for me.

I have been looking at these, I would want to build a 19, but it does not appear that they have a V2.

What would be the one thing to know before starting the build?

Many folks like the "1911" grip angle.

I've done two. super simple. Having run Glocks for 20 years I like the grip on the P80 better. The P80 seems to be made of a lighter, harder plastic. Not sure how it will hold up over time. Need someone to put several thousand rounds through one to get an idea of longevity.

There is also the ability to assemble a "Glock" tailored to your personal taste without having a pile of OEM parts left over. There is also no expensive jig to buy, which is nice.

I've built one Polymer 80 PF940C. Did it slowly and read things twice and it turned out fairly decently. Did it really for the challenge of putting one together.
