Re: Trump EO today
That would be nice,...but AG Bondi is a known anti-gunner,...so this is going nowhere.

And as it lays out, it is all administered through Bondi, who will be the gatekeeper. If she doesn't want to fully recognize the 2nd Amendment in it's whole and actual breadth,...she won't.YNOTAZ wrote: ↑February 8th, 2025, 5:45 am This is Trump's 2A Executive Order "protecting second amendment rights"

Don't forget that she was an advisor in Trump's first administration and was responsible for his "Take the guns first, due process second" delusion and his stepping on his pecker over bump-stocks. Just when I was starting to warm up to this guy, he blows it by selecting another traitor for the inner circle,...again.
Yeah, I suppose she might have changed. And I'm a Chinese fighter pilot.

Re: Trump EO today
It's just an instruction to the AG (Bondi) to review, then report back and include plan(s) of action, where applicable. While that feels like a megaton improvement over Garland and the Biden Crime Regime, it hasn't done anything (yet?).

Re: Trump EO today
I don't know why anyone would be excited about this EO...you are right, all it says is "hey, go look at this and report back in the near future". Nothing else.

Re: Trump EO today
Trump has a famous line that he used many times in his first administration, I don't think he has changed so I'm not real worried since he has a gaggle of new advisors.Suck My Glock wrote: ↑February 8th, 2025, 8:33 am Don't forget that she was an advisor in Trump's first administration and was responsible for his "Take the guns first, due process second" delusion and his stepping on his pecker over bump-stocks. His line: "your fired". Bondi could hear that as quickly as Milley did.

Re: Trump EO today
I'm not sure if "excited" is the right word... but I'll use the words "relieved" and "hopeful." When you've been sucking on lemons for 4 years, a sour apple can taste sweet... so the "relieved" is probably a function of "what this administration says is better than what the old administration says" - and I don't think that there is any arguing that this is the case. Now the "hopeful" comes from the first paragraph of the order, which reads:
I've been a gun guy my whole adult life, and I remember being a bit shocked the first time I heard someone refer to the 2nd Amendment as a hedge against tyranny. As a guy raised outside of gun culture (dad was a pacifist - he's since evolved his positions substantially) I did not grow up shooting. I had a pellet gun - and my best friend had real guns which we shot from time to time - but that was it until I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I had always thought of 2A and gun rights through the limited lens of personal protection and hunting, and it seemed radical for someone to suggest that part of it's purpose was the defense of liberty against tyranny - particularly internal tyranny. I suspect that much of the country has never thought of 2A as a hedge against tyranny.Section 1. Purpose. The Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty. It has preserved the right of the American people to protect ourselves, our families, and our freedoms since the founding of our great Nation. Because it is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans, the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed.
Over time, in my 20s and early 30s, I got more engaged in the gun community - but it was still a shock to hear someone say publicly that the purpose of 2A was the defense of liberty (even though I had come to believe that myself - it seemed "radical" to hear it said in "polite society"). Given that, having the POTUS open an executive order with a statement clearly calling out that the 2nd Amendment is "foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans" and saying that "It has preserved the right of the American people to protect... our freedoms..." is huge - and very encouraging. We might think that that understanding is obvious and common - but outside of the gun community, it isn't. Having a clear statement to that effect from POTUS to the entire nation, is a big deal (IMHO).
I'm with you on the concern about what will happen where the rubber meets the road. My hope is that the first statement in the EO is something that sets the tone for the work to be done in the rest of it. We'll see...
My 2 cents...

Re: Trump EO today
Very well said! I believe many of us were of similar mind sets "back in the day" or at least up until the late '60's when we suddenly couldn't be trusted (by our gummint) to be a moral people. I'm old enough to remember seeing SMLE Jungle Carbines in a bucket by the door of the hardware store, with a $19.95 sales tag....

As always, very well said. I just wanted to say that I've always enjoyed reading your thoughtful, respectful, and considerate posts. I hope to cross paths with you someday.BigNate wrote: ↑February 11th, 2025, 10:15 amI'm not sure if "excited" is the right word... but I'll use the words "relieved" and "hopeful."
