WHY
A serious question. WTF is wrong with gun owners?
By a large majority, gun owners don’t register to vote and the registered gun owners don’t vote.
I’m not looking for a defensive, “I vote all the time” answer, but do you know another gun owner that gives a reason for not voting.
We all preach to the choir here, how do we reach non-registered, non-voters, FUDDS, and the rest of the gun owners?
Many gun owners are worried about being put on a "list". We already know ATF is keeping an illegal gun registry, so they are on a list.
WHY?

Re: WHY
The ones I know are sick and tired of being lied to and forever being asked for money. To the way they see it, they get absolutely nothing from supporting the thieving liars who continue to thieve and lie. They don't want promises. They want results. And are no longer interested in hearing what anyone has to SAY,...only observing what they DO. They are convinced the game is rigged to never be won and are just trying to enjoy what is left of life while the big giant conspiracy against us all slowly grinds on to it's ultimate end.
I'm not saying they are correct. But it is indeed hard to counter that point of view.

Re: WHY
I've thought for years that there should be a legal requirement to vote for citizens. If you don't vote, you get charged $50-100 extra on your yearly taxes. That money goes to fund free .gov ID for registered voters who "can't afford" to get an ID. Voting Day should be a national holiday, only absentee ballots are for deployed military, proof of citizenship required, photo gov ID required. Simple fixes to a very flawed system.

Re: WHY
Much like the military being voluntary, I don't want people with no "skin in the game" voting simply because they're required to. It's never a good idea to "mandate" something so important, I'd rather the ignorant stay home on election day.QuietM4 wrote: ↑September 19th, 2024, 5:20 pm I've thought for years that there should be a legal requirement to vote for citizens. Re: WHY
If they live in this country, they have “skin in the game”. Citizenship used to be taught is schools, but that’s gone along with physical education, shop class, and life skills. Maybe if kids were actually taught something about our government in school, we’d have a more informed electorate, instead of the prom king/queen popularity contest it has become.kenpoprofessor wrote: ↑September 19th, 2024, 5:36 pmMuch like the military being voluntary, I don't want people with no "skin in the game" voting simply because they're required to. Vivek Ramaswamy wants there to be a required citizenship test for all HS graduates. That is a great start.

Re: WHY
Really, that's what you think? There's millions of people coming here from god know's where, and they're "living here", so do they have "skin in the game" ? Personally, I think anyone on public aid should be banned from voting while living on gov. assistance, voting for their pocketbook from my tax dollars is not a good thing at all. Frankly, I'd like to go back to how it was, before they gave everyone the right to vote, you know, the original version from the Constitution.QuietM4 wrote: ↑September 19th, 2024, 5:45 pm

I don't always agree with Clyde (even though we are friends), but I agree with this.kenpoprofessor wrote: ↑September 19th, 2024, 7:03 pm Personally, I think anyone on public aid should be banned from voting while living on gov. assistance, voting for their pocketbook from my tax dollars is not a good thing at all.
I used to vote my conscience, but the last election I voted straight ticket for the first time in my life. I loathe and fear what the Dems are doing to the country that I love and fight for.
I am voting mail in ballot this year (by necessity), and pray my vote is counted. I have never voted like this, and don't believe in "voting integrity" anymore, but have to do my part.
I am an AMERICAN.

Let's bring back slavery, too. At least then you could exert your power over someone who doesn't have a choice.
I'm going to just stop feeding the local forum bully, since you feel like you cannot ever be wrong.
Enjoy your Kenpo bullshit day.

At times I have thought national service should be required as well.

Re: WHY
But being required to show ID to buy alcohol/tobacco/legal marijuana, spray paint, cough or cold medicine, pick up a prescription, rent a car, pass TSA security, buy a firearm, open a bank account, rent a hotel room, go to a casino...and dozens of other daily task...that's not racist.
One day voting, in person. National holiday. No absentee votes (unless deployed military). Required citizenship and gov issued ID. Simple.

Re: WHY
So far I see reasons to vote, reasons why only citizens should vote, and why people should have skin in the game when they vote, all of which I agree with BUTT:
Only one person answered my original question. Why don't gun owners vote or even register. The only answer came from SMG, and I would love to talk to any A-Hole that gave me the answer he found.
I am not willing to give my fate up to someone else and I'm certainly not willing to just quit and hide when I find I trusted in a McStain (RINO), Bushy 1 or 2, etc. I would be happy to argue with anyone that gave me that excuse for just quitting, because if they quit voting, writing, calling now, I can't trust them for all that "pry it from my cold dead hands" pile of manure.
So, any other excuses have you've heard or even used for only 16% of gun owners voting, for either candidate?

Re: WHY
I highly question that statistic, 16%. If a stranger called you and asked ”do you vote” and then asked “do you own guns” how many people would actually answer the question? I immediately delete every text, email, and voicemail political message I get. I know I would never answer a pollsters question when it came to my gun ownership, and I don’t know a lot of gun owners that would. So, I question the validity of the stat.
The overwhelming majority of eligible people don’t vote. It’s not a difficult task. You either get up early to do it before work, or after work. Many voters don’t work, so they have all day, in theory. Millions of people vote early or by mail (allegedly). It really needs to be a national holiday, at a minimum. But that will most likely never happen….both sides are afraid it will give the other side an advantage, real or imaginary. Same reason no side really wants to push for a voter ID requirement.
As a side note, I’ve been reading all of Tom Clancy’s books in order. The first bunch are all about Jack Ryan. At some point he becomes President because of a horrible incident where all of Congress and most of the government leadership is killed in an attack on the Capital building. Ryan starts to rebuild the Senate by requesting that Governors appoint new senators; no politicians, only real people with real jobs. It sounds kinda nice…

Re: WHY
QM4, I'm not sure there is any way to verify how accurate the 16% voting rate is for gun owners, but anecdotally, looking at the anemic membership in AZCDL I’m very inclined to feel it's accurate.
Me and several others have pushed membership in AZCDL here and 2 other local gun forums. The response has gone from underwhelming to flat out complaints about embarrassing people.
Keep in mind, many in these groups shout in all CAPS “from my cold dead hands” or some variant. I find it extremely hard to believe they can be relied upon to pick up arms if they won’t pick up a ballot, a pen, a phone or join an organization where they do nothing but join.
Maybe it’s pure lazy, or the stupid assumption that it won’t happen here but resisting when there is no bloodshed required does not inspire my confidence in the majority on these forums who scream "let them try".
