Which caliber do you prefer? Why?
Another "gotta have" discussion on any firearm form: Which caliber is better in a handgun, 9mm or .45ACP? Or are you going to buck the trend and say .40SW? Or perhaps .357? Is it all about shot placement, or are bigger holes better? Is the extra magazine capacity worth it?
What's your preferred caliber [in general] and why?

I got to go with .40, got used to it as my duty Caliber plus I’ve gotten thousands of rounds of free ammo.
I have pistols, rifles, and even an MP5 in that caliber.

9mm for me. I live on the bubblegum principle.

9mm for me too. Good enough stopping power with modern ammo, high capacity, easy to find, etc.

Own more in 9mm, and shoot it more due to expense, but a couple of handguns in .40 were still easy to feed when the rest got scarce

First, I’m not a pussywillow but I simply enjoy shooting lower recoiling firearms these days. 9mm for me!

9mm - cost effective, gets the job done with proper and sufficient shot placement (as with anything), and easier to carry more ammo.

Modern Self defense ammo makes them a wash. Any small difference can easily be over come with placement or is so small you will not be able to discern it.
With that in mind and years of shooting 357 and 45 leaving it's mark with nerve damage I go 9mm. It's all I can afford to shoot financially and health wise.
I also dumped my 1911s and went all Glock all the time. But that's another topic.

I've been slowly condensing to 9 for a few years now.

.45acp. I find it easy to shoot and to reload. And I have a Colt, Ruger and a Walther in that caliber. Don't own a 9mm or 40. I must be old...

I prefer a 10MM, especially out of my Kimber, shoots fast and hits like a hammer

Re: Which caliber do you prefer? Why?
.380, so someday it can be part of statistic by a guy.
Follow up with a .45

I'm the one-and-only 357 vote. It's not my "carry" caliber.... but is my favorite/preferred caliber for everything else. It is so easy coming up with super accurate loads that can go from mild to wild.
I love reloading it, shooting it in very concentrated bench resting, & reaching out at distance with it. I am down to only 7 revolvers in that caliber, but still enjoy it the most.
My "CARRY" pieces and calibers are a different beast all together. For in the city carry, it is a Kahr cm9 for ccw in hot weather, and a Glock 19 in "long sleeve shirt" weather. For the hills (where I spend much more time carrying than the city), it is a Glock 23 or 27.

My baby is the .45, but arthritis has me limited to the 9mm these days. I don't feel undermined at all, but I do miss the nuclear power of the big 230 grain slugs.
