For a couple of years Federal FMJ 5.56 on stripper clips was selling pretty cheap. I always assumed it was produced at Lake City. Is that correct, or is all LC production sent to the military?

IF the case head is stamped LC then it is mil grade produced according to mil-spec at Lake City. Whether it is an over-run, blemish, not accepted for some other reason... is another story.
That doesn't mean all of them are bad, just that X number were randomly sampled and XX out of XXX failed so the entire lot was rejected. You get to find the rest of the bad ones...

Only a management change. Winchester does not own the plant the government does. They are just there to manage it. Maybe next time ATK will get the contract back.

Obama closed down all lead smelting operations in the US. Our lead now comes from a foreign country thanks to that traitor. If we have a big war we are now at the mercy I believe of Mexico for lead. Only scrap is allowed to be processed here now.

I have bought hundreds of 1,000 round bulk cases and 55 gallon drums of the rejects over the years and have never had one fail to go bang, jam in a rifle or blow one up. You do realize when the contracts are fulfilled that the operator of the plant will buy the materials, produce the ammo and sell it on the open market so that employees are always getting their full pay right?

The recent Winchester 5.56, Hornady's Frontier, and Norma's .223, are all made in Lake City's plant using LC's brass and primers, maybe even propellants too, and using the respective contractor's projectiles provided.

General Dynamics pretty much owns powder production in the US after they Bought Saint Marks Powder. They are buying up market share.

I think what he is saying is that employees have to stay busy all the time- they can't just sit around and expect to get paid waiting until some muckety muck approves an order... so they just keep producing like normal... if the warehouse shelf gets full and there's nowhere to ship it then it gets sold as excess to make room for tomorrows run... The govt can take their good ol time with paperwork and all you can do is hurry up and wait... but once they do, they want their schit right now... unless specified otherwise.
