I posted on this a couple of weeks ago, I travel on the 8 twice a week, and 80-90% of the plates INBOUND are from CA. One day I kept track while driving (it is a boring drive) and 8 out of 9 cars that I saw east bound from the 85 to I-10 were CA.

Alternately, when I am heading back west on the 8, almost no CA plates heading west...which is disturbing.

One thing to remember though is, just because someone has a ca area code, doesnt mean they are new to the state.

Ive been here 20 years and still have a ca phone number. Not everyone switches when they move.

Our neighbors just sold their house and a California couple bought it and moved in this week. I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of California clowns next door, but so far they seem OK. They haven't bothered changing plates on their cars yet and still use cell phones with Cali numbers, and this shall likely be the case for a while. Yet, they have indeed moved here and are residents now. And if one of them were to try so contact you right now, you would be suspicious of them. I'm not trying to convince you that you shouldn't,...just pointing out there are legitimate new Arizonans streaming in to be aware of.

Those moving here or visiting are fine to purchase ammunition; it's not knowing if they are exporting it that poses the dilemma.

Yes, but really, how can you know? Heck, I know guys who specifically move all their shooting goods every year via the California contingent out in Quartzite, making a nice percentage on everything.

Living in one area and having a phone with an area code from another has been around since late 1998 and is widely used by a lot of people in the business I used to be in. In some cases, like mine, it was because of a prejudice against anything but local people in a huge target area for my business. It's pretty easy to get a number for a different area as long as you have access to an address in that area.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_number_portability#:~:text=Mobile%20number%20portability%20was%20implemented,along%20with%20456%2C159%20mobile%20lines.

In the United States, 47 U.S.C. § 251, added by the Telecommunications Act of 1996, requires all local exchange carriers (LECs) to offer number portability in accordance with the regulations of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC implemented regulations on 27 June 1996, with LECs required to implement them in the 100 largest Metropolitan Statistical Areas by 1 October 1997 and elsewhere by 31 December 1998.

Went to my favorite little gun shop yesterday and he has a big sign plastered on the front door, “No Ammo Sales to Californians”!

We moved here 10 months ago, within a month we had the drivers license , car license changed. i got my ccw a year before we moved. The cells were kept because all the family has them memorized so its just easier that way. I think that its a little strange that most of my neighbors are all from Kalifornia, we go shooting together and talk smack about the old home state.

I like that little gun shop already. :)

I try to remain open minded. I was very ignorant in regard to firearms and since my conversion, I've brought in a lot of shooters to the fold. Not from California but an equally repressive part of the country.

Suppose the EZ button would be to ask to see -just see- their ID. Not AZ, no sale.
iIRC you must tag / register your vehicle immediately on establishing residency, i.e. drivers license .

I know a few people that have out of state phone numbers and have been living here for years.
Some people just don't like to change their numbers for one reason or another.

If you sell ammo to a stranger, you should require an Az ID from them.
If they are from California and you sell them ammo and they get in trouble in Ca. When the cops ask "where did you get the ammo?' and they say "some dude in Phoenix", guess what happens.

Police will get the phone number from their cell phone logs and you will be charged.
Not worth the risk.
That is why many online sellers refuse to ship to Ca, even to an FFL.

Okay... what happens? I’ve tried guessing and I’m coming up blank.

And perhaps a part of the investigation.

Okay, show me the law that states that anyone selling California residents ammo in another state violates that state's laws. Anything. Or, anyone who has gotten in trouble for doing so. Anywhere.
Don't spread internet rumors that are not even remotely true. There is nothing that states I have to check any form of identification when selling ammunition if I don't have reason to suspect they can't legally own/purchase that ammo. Even then I'm not sure that matters as it's not a federally controlled item.
Someone from Cali buys ammo from me and they get caught- nothing will happen to me. Zero. Zilch. Cops aren't even going to come ask me anything since it doesn't violate any state or federal laws. Just because it's illegal to do it that way in Cali, doesn't translate to it here. Same thing for going into Cali and buying some weed. You cross state lines to AZ you really think our lawmakers here are going to actually go into Cali to get some dispensary owner?
The only thing you have to worry about selling ammo is if you manufacture it for the intent of selling without a FFL or if you start selling armor piercing ammo that you manufactured. You can shoot it yourself, you just can't sell it.

This is the correct answer. There is no law prohibiting AZ residents from selling ammo even to Californians. We aren't under California's jurisdiction.

I see you're unaware that there are a lot of good Californians. I met a lot of them while doing jobs in California and generally speaking, the coast is full of Liberal Progressives and inland is full of conservatives. Many of them are the same as us.

Would I sell them ammo? Not right now because of the shortage and wanting to keep my inventory up, but when that's over with I'd be happy to sell the conservatives ammo.
