Friend called to ask about the value of the rifle her grandson just inherited.

Mossberg Model 35A, single shot bolt action .22 target rifle. Apparently only made for a couple of years in the 1930s. No serial number!

Anybody have a clue as to the value range? Or where to look? Or who to ask?

Thanks.

Who to ask ????? Ask an old guy.
Like most guns , hard to do without pictures or descriptions.
But,,,, with Mossberg 22s the devil is in the details.
Model 35 was their heavy barrel target gun of the day , In about 1937 the Model 35A got the new "master action " that carried Mossberg 22 bolt guns till the 60's. In about 1944 it evolved into the model 44 that many are familiar with.
So It should have a blocky beaver tail stock and condition is very important to value .
With beautiful condition blue and finish, dressed with a # 4 peep sight(75 bucks) and removable swivels (45 bucks) it could be worth $200 ish.
In working but crappy condition , missing sights , weird holes drilled for weird scope mounts , rough finish etc. probably a $50 dollar gun.
Properly tidied up , they will shoot as well as anything today so well worth fixing up if needed.
Parts , if needed are not hard to find.

Thanks, Old Guy. :-)

It is an unmodified 35A, with the sight and swivels. From the cell phone photos I saw, there is some freckling on the bluing, so it is not in mint condition.

I'll tell her $150-$200 and be done with it.
