I flew on the Collings Foundation B-17 “909” which later crashed in Michigan in a ball of fire. Now I’ve flown on a lot of active duty military aircraft and never once did I ever go wheels up without a safety briefing. So, I was kinda amazed when we boarded 909 without one. I’ve also flown in the Collings Foundation “Witchcraft” a B-24 (you haven’t had f*cking fun until you’ve flown low over the Superstitions in the tail gunner turret of a B-24!) and on the CAF B-29 “Fifi” and from personal experience I can tell you that it’s much more difficult to move around and exit from a B-17 and if it was afire good luck bailing outa the bombardier or pilot/co-pilot positions. CAF never let anybody get into the ball turret or tail and from the video somebody in the gunners tail gunner position might have had a small chance of surviving.
