Consumption has risen sharply since the pandemic began, while production had dropped. Some retailers can't restock a wide range of spirits.

So far, there's no indication on social media of panic buying. But as we've seen before, that can abruptly change.

Talked to a friend who was at the Mesa costco- Sossaman & U.S. 60 - Friday. He usually picks up 2-3 big jugs of Black Velvet. That stuff has to be the most largely produced and widely distributed canadian whiskey in the world. He said they were completely out, and this isn't even snowbird season!

if you buy in bulk, make sure it is in glass bottles....the plastic will degenerate over time making the stuff mush and undrinkable. Also anything with a cork topper will deteriote over 50 years.

In March 2020 I added the following of at least 6 of each of the purpose liquors to my home survival kits in gallon bottles (if available):

Everclear
Tequila
Vodka
Gins
High end whiskeys
various red and white wines

Then I went and some filters, funnels and glass bottles for redistribating as needed:

I was at the same Costco today, didn't notice any Black Velvet but their was plenty of other booze.
Any of you tried the Kirkland 92 proof Spiced Rum?

I didn't like it. If you are up in my area you can have the bottle minus the 2 or 3 shots out of it.

oddly I recently have and was pleasantly surprised. Rum used to be my drink of choice for along while until moving into whiskys.

I can never stock pile liquor, shit gets drank way too fast if its in the house so I have to buy it on as as needed/wanted basis.

I probably should have also added that if there wasn't EVER any black velvet anywhere, it would be no big loss, other than the supply of different, decent whiskey would start to dry up! Just MHO. ;)

And when it comes to Kirkland alcohol, it can be hit or miss, depending on your tastes.

I like the Rum and the 92 proof doesn't hurt a bit.

Exactly! I hear stories about whiskey collectors but I never have understood that concept.

peated irish mostly- maybe apple pie- thats for the folks that ask for it- once its stilled you can make it into pretty much any flavor.
the problem right now is getting good yeast-
alcotech 48hr turbo-yeast sucks- ruined the last batch- Onate sweet feed is usually what i use- but tractor supply sweet cobb is easier and closer

I just used simple Fleischmann's dry yeast. Didn't get real real high proof stuff out of it, but it's cheap and always available.

alcotec runs about 23% in 3 days- i end up with 22 pints of apple pie- strt run i end up with 13 pints of 110- then i mix up my flavoring-
its so close to conamera that folks dont believe its shine
