If a load is worked up for a 77 grain Sierra MK, can a tipped MK be used interchangably (in regards to safety, not neccessarily same POI).
Also, does a cannelure change data?

Base to ogive length may change. Shouldn't affect safety, unless you are loading the COAL so close to the rifling that pressures may increase. But it shouldn't increase enough to cause a kaboom. But, be on the lookout for over pressure signs. POI will most likely change.

I'm guessing that the bullet you favor has become near impossible to find, and the tipped bullets are what you can find right now....I had a similar issue with my 6.5 Creedmoor recently. I've always been in the habbit of picking up a box of my preferred projectile whenever I see them on a shelf, but recently I've been less particular about what I see on the shelf, and just get what is available.
