So I’ve now had the same issue with 3, yes 3 separate lots of Rio Star Evo 12 gauge #7.5 1oz and 2 separate lots of Rio Star Evo 12 gauge #8 1oz shells.
In the #7.5 every 8th round will have hard or not fully set primers. I’ve experienced this in 3 separate case lots. With the #8 both lots every 10th shell has a hard primer.
I have tried them in all my Mossberg’s, and my friends on my Trap and Sporting clays team have had the same issue with the lots in their Bennellis, Winchester 870’s, and their Over Unders.
All 5 lots were purchased as whole cases (250 rounds each) locally in Phoenix. Each case has a different lot number. I reached out to the dealer, and Rio’s local rep, both gave me the brush off. They were polite but told me there was nothing they could/would do.
So the point of this long winded post is to ask if anyone else has had a similar experience with Rio Star ammunition? I used to run Federal, but the case deal on Rio was “too good to pass up” and currently it is far less expensive to buy new factory loads then to break out my reloading set up.
