OK, here's a few Smith revolver pics. They've been posted before on other AZ forums but thought I'd kick these on here. This is a M24 44 Special which was a 1983 reissue.

Hey TriggerFish, is that the original finish on your Utah HP 27-2? Its a beautiful gun.

Hard to believe that Utah had used those starting back in the day when the N frames were Registered Magnums. But then my native Colorado used Colt Pythons back in the day and there were some good bargains when they switched over to new service weapons.

The 3 1/2 and 5 inch 27's are my favorite lengths of the 27-2's and I sure wish I would have hung onto some of them. Instead I hung my hat onto the long 8 3/8 inch barrel guns and, while they were popular back in the day, these days the shorter barrels are all the rage. Poor judgement on my part.

brandyspaw, I bought the 1967 UHP M27-2 from a private party at a Crossroads Show @ the fairgrounds in '03. It was rough (top pic) both cosmetically and mechanically. I was just going to fix the function problems but the S&W P.C. had such a a good price for a bright blue refinish that I went for both. Oh, the gun did not have stocks when I bought it but I got a set from a collector on S&W Forum.

I told the P.C. not to over polish before the re-blue. It is now an excellent shooter and makes shooting .357 a pleasure.

Thanks for that info. It looks like you made a good choice on how far you went with restoring it as it looks great. Sometimes people "over-restore" old guns and then they look like they've been reblued even without closing inspecting them.

I had asked because when the Colorado Highway Patrol sold off all their old Pythons there were some guns that looked like they'd been through WW-III and some that looked like they'd never been issued. It was all about the luck of the draw.

I do have the wood grips for both, but I think they look (and feel) better with the Hogues. The picture makes them look similar in size, but the Redhawk dwarfs the 67.
