I have a few SKS rifles I am trying to salvage. The receivers are okay, minor pitting below the wood, but there is a lot of erosion inside the barrel between were where the neck of the cartridge ends and the rifling begins. I still need to test fire the rifle (headspace is perfect) but I am just trying to be prepared in case my test firing is unsuccessful and results in the barrel being the point of failure.
Is there any gunsmith you can recommend that could remove the existing barrel and install and retime a new threaded receiver barrel with all components already installed? I know the headspace might also need to be adjusted as well if a new barrel is installed.
