Survival kit contents check. In them you’ll find:

– One forty-five caliber automatic
– Two boxes of ammunition
– Four days’ concentrated emergency rations
– One drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills
– One miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible
– One hundred dollars in rubles
– One hundred dollars in gold
– Nine packs of chewing gum
– One issue of prophylactics
– Three lipsticks
– Three pair of nylon stockings.

Shoot, a fella’ could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.”

At today's prices, $100.00 in gold is 35 grains of gold, just under half the weight of a 5.56 bullet.

And in the 1950's, with the price set by law at $35/ounce, it would have been around 3 ounces.

I wonder how many rounds were in each "box of ammo." That's a fair amount of weight. They must have expected to do a lot of shooting. I wonder how many magazines they got with their .45 autos.
