This one really has me perplexed. My assumption is, that the student was schooled on the 'tap-rack-bang' clearance drill with a dummy after the first round. The 'instructor' must've wanted him to separate the whole thing from the firing-sequence, with finger naturally on the trigger.

I don't care for the safety risk of the instructor using a stick at 90 degrees from, and quite close to, the muzzle. A large allen-key wrench, or suitably configured 'stick' in the shape of the letter L would've been far safer. For that matter, why didn't the instructor just trigger the gun with his own finger?
