Pelican rifle case refurb -- refoam or Magpul DAKA grid?

I've got a case that I'll replace the existing foam with either new foam or the DAKA grid stuff.

Has anyone here used the Magpul DAKA grid system in a Pelican rifle case? If so, what have been the pros and cons. If not, did you use something else, and what was it, and why?

I have Daka in one 1720.

Pros: no annoying foam cutting, you can reconfigure for different setups

Cons:
- the blocks are thicker than many people cut their foam so I felt I can’t fit as large of a rifle in the case. The flip side is that forcing a min of a block width from the edge of the case is probably better protection than “too thinly cut” foam
- I wish there were a couple extra blocks in the kit. Setting it up to really secure the rifle, the empty areas where I put extra mags kind of let the mags rattle around a bit. A couple extra blocks to better isolate mags/accessories would be nice

That’s about it. I don’t regret buying it but I’m not going to swap out already cut foam (no matter how bad I mangled it with a utility knife) until I need to reconfigure a case for a different rifle.

I think I could see where more blocks are better. Of course, Magpul is happy to have them ready to sell. :lol:

If I had a few cases setup with DAKA I could see getting an "expansion kit" just to have a spare pile of legos to optimize my setup. But I see they now have angled blocks, V-blocks for surrounding a barrel, etc that just seem too expensive. (I realize that's the entire point of selling crap - I do understand capitalism.)
