Yes it likely could have been prevented by having a reasonable retention holster but in any case. This was in Phoenix.

this reminds me of a recent shopping experience in a big box store. this very old man and his very old wife were shopping, going up and down all the aisles while pushing a shopping cart. He had a very bad limp like he needed a new knee or hip or something. they were in their own world and not paying attention to their surroundings. He was open carrying and had his piece in one of those floppy holsters, like what I remember police might have used many years ago. so every step its bouncing off his hip. this guy would have been an easy target for someone to snatch that piece and the only thing he wouldn't have been able to do anything.

Old FUDD probably.

That being said, nothing wrong with open carrying, but, you have to stay aware of your environment. Having a well fitted, snug to body holster does much, but knowing when to cover it up or not is just as important.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day

It looked to me like the guy that got his gun taken didn't even know what just happened.
He felt something and then starts looking around.
I don't think he even realized his gun was taken.

True, don’t make yourself a target if you don’t have to.

Totally agreed. It's nice to have open carry. Now days plenty of shady desperate characters out there. Which is unfortunate.

lol, oh wait men, don't carry your man purse, someone will take it.
oh wait gals, don't carry your gal purse someone will take it.

quit crying wolf over an anomaly, its was only reported because the news joint was anti, think about it, some parts of phoenix and az as a whole if one pays attention will see many packing outright, nothing wrong with it, but as noted, be aware, carrying a gat is a huge responsibility, not just so you can say "" I CCW"" to friends and family. who the fudge cares if your packing ccw, or otherwise, why make it a big deal, only someone who has or is a transplant to a free state would even consider the bullshite conversation . Hey thats just me, and i'm a cantankerous ole arsehole, and yeah, i pretty much would share the same comments in person,
may you be wearing sky protection, just in case the sky is falling. :o

Rj and i approved this message.

I believe I saw a relative of this guy leaving the Fry's grocery store by my house a couple months ago. Had gym shorts on that time. Same gat.. He was carrying a case of water over his head, so both hands were full. His shorts started to slide down. He was walking with his feet spread out about 3 feet to keep them up.

I have a CCW but open carry almost exclusively and do so for a reason: Open carry, I believe, normalizes firearms in public and helps to alleviate panic from non-gun owners when they see a handgun riding on a belt holster. I'd like to see more gun owners open carrying.

But I can see why the OP might prefer to carry concealed based on the video and I prefer a retention holster for precisely that reason.

i agree completely that we should work toward normalization. You don't hear people say, "OMG, That guy over there is wearing a wristwatch!" I would like us to get to the point where nobody thinks twice about somebody wearing a gun.
I would do it, but I don't have the guts. I respect and admire those who do.

Weak, weak, and weak, but, at least you're being honest about it.

I only carry concealed unless I'm going camping. If I have to stop at a store or gas station I'll cover it with my shirt and I keep my arm/hand nearby as I don't have a retention holster.
