Greeting all,
** free Hobbs memorial shirt, no catch **
March 3rd will be seven years since John Hobbs went down fighting. A couple of weeks ago I was looking at my two Hobbs memorial shirts and was bummed that they are getting worn out. So…. I decided to have some new ones made as close to the originals as possible. I waited until the shirts were finished and of satisfactory quality before posting this. Note: The black shirts were supposed to have green artwork like the original, but ended up with white artwork. They still look good.
I will be at Sportsman’s Warehouse (Yorkshire and I-17) parking lot (west end, gray Ram 1500) this Sunday the 28th from 1:00 – 3:00 (or earlier if they they are all gone) to hand them out to those who respond to this post. I had 30 shirts made of which 6 are already allocated. There are 4 remaining of the following sizes and colors:
Currently 4 available as of 8:16 AM on the 27th
Large (green): 1
Large (black): 1
XXL (black): 2
I will allocate them in order of response till they are all called for. One per person. This obviously won’t be convenient for those who live away from the Phx metro area. So if you can find someone to pick it up for you during the designated time, then go ahead and claim one and include WHO will pick it up for you. Once again, ONE per person. If you cheat, Hobbs will come back and choke you out.
Please keep the response posts short to facilitate me keeping track of the details (who, size, color, etc). I will try to monitor the board periodically to update the available shirts/sizes but do your own cross checks. I will include an “updated” time next to what is currently available to facilitate this. I think it’s likely they will be claimed quickly.
A graphically talented friend recreated the artwork and I had them printed at Screamin’ Screen Print located on 7th street just north of Dunlap (602 482-9773). They said they will keep the job on file for one year (can be renewed annually for $20) so if you missed out or want to have some more made. Just tell them that you want to order the John Hobbs memorial shirts and that “Jon” sent you.
FYI, I never knew or met John, but I did have a connection to him from work. At that time, I was working in the Phoenix PD crime lab in the Firearms section having transferred the month prior from Toxicology. I remember vividly when the firearms evidence came in and was assigned to the experienced firearms examiners. I did not directly examine the evidence since I wasn’t trained yet, but I did observe the various analyses as part of my training. Seeing the gun that killed him and the weapon he used to take down the bad guy made it more “real” to me. Even though I didn’t know him I thought I could do this small thing to help keep his memory alive. Stay in the fight.
Sincerely,
Jon
