Hi , new here but used to love the old site back in the day.
I have an original Colt thunderer and need help fitting the cylinder stop and a few other parts.
Most gunsmiths do not like them.

Any suggestions?

Thank you , jwnaz

Those suckers are built like a clock. That’s why they had so many issues. It was due to so many moving parts interacting one another for single or double action. All internals are same for Thunderer or Lightning models. Unfortunately, experience with any 1877 Colt dictates taking a little off at a time then reassemble to assess function, when fitting a new part. That is the most frustrating part to work on one, is constant disassembling & reassembling. Nobody wants to pay for that part of the craftsmanship needed to keep them up & running. That all being said, nothing feels better than hearing all those parts click & snap into place when shooting an antique 1877 Colt!
I’m down in Tucson, or I’d take a look for you.

What mike mike said

its a nightmare to keep them timed, i attempted to work on them and decided to not work on them again, there was a guy in phoenix, back about 5 years ago, but he doesn't seem to be interested in working on them anymore, shame he was cheap and very good, but chuck finally threw in the towel

I thought it was a good idea at the time.
I put a bunch of 45AR through my 45 colt 1917.
It gummed up right quick after a few cylinders through it.

Holy Flying Shiitake mushrooms Batman!
What a pain to disassemble.

I can only imagine the earlier models would be even worse.
