Prosecutors are not trying hard; they're taking a dive. Jury is loaded with relatives of addicts, sympathetic to HB. Testimony is all about how poor Hunter has suffered but has bravely overcome his addiction. Normally, prosecutor would object as Irrelevant. Issue is whether he lied on the form; overcoming addiction not related to that, not part of the law. They are setting up for jury nullification. I predict defense will ask for nullification instruction, prosecution will not object, and judge will not deny the request. Not Guilty verdict. Fix is in.

Change my mind.

Well you know the fix is in when Joe goes on record answering the question of whether he will pardon Hunter, and he repeatedly says "no". Which means the judge has been told how to throw out the verdict if it comes back wrong, and the prosecutors have been told to barely do the minimum. But what if the jury doesn't play along? Hell, Hunter's own daughter didn't do him any favors today. And looks like Congress is going to indict him and the First Brother for lying to Congress under oath, so he's likely phucked there, too.

But if Hunter gets cooked, it will at least be a handy bit of cultural salve if/when the SCOTUS delivers a decision in line with the 2nd Amendment in a month or so doing away with the prohibited possessor bullschit.

One judge already said it was ok for illegals to have guns. So if drug users and illegals can have guns why do we need the FORM 4473.
Backdate the the Financials for the judge and the jury members on this one, then check them for one year.

I was wrong. Or, as the Fonz said, "I was wr- wr- wr-"

But that's because none of youse mugs attempted to change my mind!

Fallout?
Now the Dems get to say, "See, there is no two-track justice system!" Gag.
OTOH, he certainly will appeal, so some time after the election, we can look forward to the court(s) ruling that the 4473 is invalid, because The People have the RKBA, and that means all of The People. Long term, he will get off, but it will be a win for us.

Shower Daddy has said he would not pardon his "child." He has never lied before, has he?

After Election Day, win or lose, there is no penalty, no downside, for breaking that promise. To prevent an appeals court from affirming the rights of the rest of us, The Big Guy would certainly pardon his little boy, under the principle of WTFYGDAI (What The Heck You Gonna Do About It).

Hunter was guilty because of Trump being guilty. One last little effort to show us peons that the justice system works fairly for all. They already tried handing Hunter a powderpuff dismissal but because of the crap going down with Trump, they threw that out and retried him.

Surely Joe wouldn’t lie right?

Hunter is guilty becuase he actually broke a law, a Federal felony.

Trump's conviction was based on a state law, a misdemeanor, that they hoodwinked the jury into believing was a Federal crime. The state statute he was convicted on was only able to be tried, despite the statute of limitation running out already, becuase they were able to tie it to a Federal law. VERY DIFFERENT situations.

Jail or no jail? How say you?

No jail. Max fine is $250,000 (per count, I believe). This type of felony is very rarely prosecuted at all, and even then it's not a standalone crime...it's usually part of several other more severe indictments. He'll get a fine and maybe a few years probation. It's not something you jail someone over, I don't care who it is.

In that case, who will pay his fine? China? Ukraine? Russia? Or will he just reduce his child support obligations by the amount of the fine?
