While bored and flipping through options on Amazon Prime Video, I came across a movie recently released called THE AMBUSH. It was made in the United Arab Emirates, and is about an event in Yemen back in 2018 where UAE peacekeeping troops got ambushed in what I interpret to be their own Blackhawn Down moment. The movie was made in 2021 but only hit Prime in the last month or so.
The UAE government decided to pull out all the stops to make a top quality movie production to celebrate these national heroes. They hired an American crew of Hollywood experienced action film makers, and ordered the military to assist them in everything they needed. Despite being in Arabic, the dubbed English was not distracting and I found the movie very enjoyable. The action is superb quality and right up there with anything you've likely seen. And when they set out all the squibs to replicate .50BMG impacts and 30mm Apache impacts,...they used more than Hollywood insurance minders would ever allow them to, because it looked pretty flippin' real. When an Apache descends into a rather narrow canyon and starts circling and blasting away at the Yemenis from under 100 feet and near pistol range,...it sure didn't look simulated to me. Absolute mayhem.
Anyway, regardless of how some of y'all might still hold a bias towards any muslim nation, this movie was a good shoot-em-up and some cool action entertainment. Oh yeah,...and just like you should never shoot it out with Nazis in a basement,...never take a convoy of lightly armored MRAPs and Buffalos through a winding, narrow, high-walled canyon tailor-made for an ambush, no matter how bad-azz you are. Just don't.
