watched a decent..if somewhat cheesy movie on YouTube today about the modern day mountain man Claude Dallas who caused a 15 month manhunt in the state of Idaho after shooting a pair of game wardens who hostily entered his camp in a very remote outback area...(A little background in this link).

I watched the movie after reading the book about him called "Give a Boy a Gun: A True Story of Law and Disorder in the American West."
Not a bad film. the entire movie is here ..don't know why it says part 1... 1hr and 30 minutes long and starts over again on this link.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VsPTM8nbJQ

I didn't watch the movie but I remember when all this was going on.
Claude Dallas was not only a murderer , but a poacher and draft dodger also.
They tried to make him out as a hero , but he was far from that.

Poacher? Absolutely! Draft dodger?.. Maybe but the government couldn't prove it and failed to convict him. Murderer?? Seems there was and still is a large opinion gap as to if he was a murderer or not, and the jury obviously did not believe so as he was eventually charged with voluntary manslaughter and of using a firearm in the commission of a crime.

He failed to show up when he was drafted. It was ( if I remember right ) two years later when the cops caught up to him and arrested him for it.
His lawyer did find some loophole to get him off but he knew nothing about any loophole when he ran. He ran because he did not want to go into the military.

As far as murder. He shot the game wardens with his pistol and then went into his tent and got a .22 caliber rifle , came out and shot them both in the back of the head.

It might have , maybe , possibly been second degree when he first shot them , but when he went into his tent and came out and shot them in the back of the head , that was murder.

He might have been convicted of a lesser charge but as far as I am concerned he murdered them.
