This is bulls41t. Yeah, it's a misdemeanor. That's not the point. They admit they were wrong, and they hand over their guns.

They should have demanded an apology and sued for wrongful prosecution.

Both of those accused were attorneys themselves, may turn out they could recognize a good deal when they see one. The original charges were not spelled out in there just that they pled to lesser charges.

I confess that I didn’t see this plea deal coming. With the governor assuring the pair of a pardon, and Mark McCloskey’s senate campaign in full swing, I saw the trial as an opportunity for McCloskey to get a lot of free press coverage without running the risk of actually going to jail or prison if he and his wife were convicted. It’s one thing to run for Senate on a campaign of “I stood up to the mob and stood my ground when I was prosecuted for it.” It’s something else entirely to base your campaign message on “I stood up to the mob but took a plea deal because it was in my best interest to do so.”

I feel you but I'd like to add that you're being short sighted.

My simple case cost me over 5k to fight for my innocence. The punishment is the process. I experienced this as well. This was a very stressful time for me and although I was innocent there was a lot uncontrollable variables and the state had endless resources. They count on this and expect most to plead down. I was better prepared but these assholes showed up THREE times to court for a discovery hearing and failed to bring the bullshit evidence each time. The judge instead of throwing out the case due to lack of serious interest in prosecuting someone would just push the court date back again and again and drag my shit out while the meter on my lawyer is running.

What do you think would have happened to me had I not showed up to any of my appearances?

The "justice" system is a homophone for "Just us" for a reason.
 
Hell, all he has to do is run as a democrat. Having a conviction is a badge of honor for them.

If he gets in, flip parties and vote republican.

The differences between their case and yours were:
- People were lining up to donate for their legal fees;
- The knew they would not go to jail, because the governor would pardon them;
- There was a matter of principle and national importance on the line. The symbolism was huge. They let us down.

The live interview I watched yesterday, he said that he did not loose his firearms and he would do the same thing again.

Yup. The same things that happened to me. They dangled the dumbest shit when I had ABSOLUTEFUCKINGPROOF that I didn't do what they were accusing me of and they STILL were willing to take it to trial because they've got nothing to lose.

99% of the people on this board have never spent a night in jail and not evening knowing what time it is or how much has gone by when sitting in an overcrowded shithole down on 4th ave that stinks like you wouldn't believe, wishing you had 5 feet of personal space and hoping that the junkie with the open sores who is puking his guts out and bleeding near you doesn't have Hep C or the hiv.

Trials are a huge gamble. Even when you know you are innocent.
