My dad left behind quite the ammo fort and in an ideal world I'd love to keep it all, but my stepmom needs the money, if not now likely eventually.
So, I will likely be selling all but say 20%ish of the 22LR, 9mm, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, and 12ga. The calibers I shoot basically.

My dilemma, is there anyone likely to buy it all in one shot at todays insane-o clown world prices that wouldn't be so low ball that I could make it worth my time to piecemeal it out bit by bit??? :?:
I've even contemplated getting a table at the gunshow for a weekend but I have a shitty Wed-Sun work schedule and dont get pto on "extra" days off.

Feel free to chime in but this is in no way a sale thread.
I'm not planning on making any deals until/unless I have ruled out a bulk sale which would be easier for my stepmom, and my lower back lol. Anyhow, at that time I will post ads here first.

Here is what I have put together with the cheapest in stock prices I could find online (not counting shipping/tax or any other bs.)
*you're going to need to either squint like mad or open it in a new window

No. No one is plopping down $23k for ammo, or even close to that amount. Piecemeal it out at 70% of those prices, and you’ll get it sold, but it’ll take time.

My thoughts?
No one will plunk down that amount in cash at those prices
No meat on the bone left for anyone to even consider it
Set a pre - stupid pricing and you will get it gone - one deal - over

1) Guys who need the ammo - don't have that kind of money laying round
2) Guys who have the money likely have a hoard of ammo on hand - will not pay inflated prices

There is the issue you are dealing with

It may also depend on the location I have passed up some good deals if the drive from the east side was too far.

I agree with gunnut. Many family have asked me to offload their guns or ammo for them and to make it worth my while they may or may not "tip" me 10%.
I don't need the ammo but would consider a large purchase at pre-pricing to either continue my stash or flip some to offset the cost.

I dont see anyone spending that kind of money on bulk ammo. A lot of those prices I see are actually higher than the gun stores at this point. And im seeing more and more ammo on the shelves, so I see it gradually coming down as long as there arent any other crazy things to make it jump. If someone buys in bulk, then they want a discount and they should get one. If you want to peddle it at that price, you might look into renting a table at one of the gun shows or start running a constant ad on armslist.

I agree with all the previous sentiment. Maybe a year ago, you could have sold it all at that price in one shot, but ammo is starting to come back on the shelves. You'll have to piece meal it out, but you need to hurry because the appetite for high price ammo is running out.

You could probably mark 10% under retail and sell as lots per caliber and may be able to move it in a reasonable time frame that way, but asking full retail (less tax and shipping) for huge lot in a wide variety of calibers and ammo types is a pretty big ask.

I'd be interested in the whole lot, but not anywhere near those prices.

Thanks for all the input and basically reinforcing what I was thinking.

As for the prices they were the best prices I could find when I threw together the spreadsheet a couple weeks ago and like everyone said it wont move at those prices and especially not all at once.

Now to figure out the trust stuff and keep vs sell and how to pay the least transfer tax as possible

Around here I'm pretty sure that is refered to as "restock", not a "fort" 😄
Well, he had been shooting from it for two years since the last time he restocked but yah, you're probably right lol.
Back when he had the 1919 we were picking up surplus 308 by weight but not at todays prices thats for sure.

Yet I am a believer in the millionaire next door. My neighborhood has a guy who flew to offshore angolan oil rigs for 10 years....he retired could easily pay whatever....he spent lots on a dillion or 3 at last count. Same house average cars just the guy next door. Might convince a dealer or some weathly individual but I lean toward the pre panic pricing get it sold the fastest.

Yup, family trust. Not a large collection as he trimmed it down a few years back. Most of it I'll hang onto, suppressor resale blows and sbr's aren't worth much more than a pistol/rifle version of the same firearm.
But the integrally suppressed .50 and probably an sbr or two will have to go.
It's a straight forward trust, I am hoping we can just sell what is going to be sold then just modify/amend the existing trust while maintaining the trust name to move forward but its also an old trust and I'll probably have to hire a legal type for the update and to verify there's no legal issues.
