I just found out (via email) that the Joe Foss range has the 6/30/2024, as the last date for public use.

It will be interesting to see what happens next.

MCSO is taking it over, but I know nothing else on what would be done with it yet.

Regarding the facility, I have never used it.

That sucks! I spent some time years ago as a volunteer range safety officer there and I have been shooting there for around 45 years. Probably sell off most of the land to build condos for all them people who will be working at TSMC and whatever is left will be limited to LEO 's like by south mountain

Ah, TSMC is across from Ben Avery. Would make no sense to endure 1.5 to 2.0 hour travel time, each way.

Ah my mistake, I was thinking it was Ben Avery. Joe Foss is a great range and have been there many times with my father.

I hate to see any facility shut down that supports shooting. I never made it out there because it was so far for me and I guess its too late to plan a trip there now to experience it before it closes.

An ex-coworker sent me an email with the following attachments yesterday. I haven't ever used this range because it's not convenient due to distance, but I don't want it to close. Apparently America Fidelis Guns & Ammo is organizing support to keep Joe Foss range open. The attachments come from their website.

I haven't visited them before either for the same reasons as not visiting Joe Foss range. I'll have to make a point of taking a trip to Buckeye now.

MCSO has their own range. Why do they need to steal a public range?

They didn't steal it. I can tell you, MCSO was directed to take it over by Maricopa County.

Why were they directed to take it over.

Parks and rec wants nothing to do with shooting. The wrong people are getting voted into office.

County was directed to take it over because 1: law enforcement does use it 2: it is adjacent to the current county range and 3 it is in the county

Mcso did not ask for it

Hopefully something can happen to allow public use

Last I heard about a month ago, Parks and Rec is currently looking for another agency to take it over. MCSO doesn't want it and is NOT taking it.

The land is BLM, and one of the requirements for the range is that it has to be open to the public for a certain amount of time. Parks & Rec no longer wants to deal with it. MCSO was picked I assume because is a county as well. But no one wants to deal with it.

It should be turned into a private club like PRGC. Members pay dues, find a local part time manager. have a gate with a code to enter andopen for a few hours on the weekend for public shooters. Ben Avery USED to be a great range before Maricopa County let the game and fish cnuts take it over.If I lived in the area I would do it in a heartbeat but that is a long haul from north Phoenix.

This is a perfect example of how politicians with zero common sense waste our tax money. They literally spent millions developing and building that place out in the middle of nowhere.

And now they don't even have the money to keep it open. Even when it first opened, it didn't have that great of hours. And the idiots went and built the Trap range facing East.

So you can't use it in the morning hours, because you've got the Sun shining directly into your eyes. They could have easily consulted someone BEFORE they built it, on what the yearly operating cost would be.

This reminds me of these people who buy big boats, then complain about what the gas costs to run them. Did these idiots think the place would run itself?

Ah, yep, that's just what they expected. Not "run" but finance itself. Just like BASF is supposed to.
