Ithaca Model 37 , Looking for information

I thought I would post this so everyone might have something to think about besides the Coronavirus.

I have this old shotgun.
It is an Ithaca model 37 in 20 gauge.
It is in excellent condition and shoots very good. I shoot it quite a bit.
It was made in 1949 and came with an 18 inch barrel with rifle sights.
It is not a Deerslayer. It was made 10 years before the Deerslayer came out.
The barrel has the same serial number stamped on it as does the receiver.
It is not a cut down barrel.
I contacted Ithaca and they said it was a special order gun with the 18 inch barrel made in 1949 and that is all they know.
I can not find any other information on it.
So does anyone here know anymore about these shotguns.

I too own a 37 20ga I inherited from my dad... Mine has a Polychoke installed...

About all I can tell you is that it was based on a John Browning design, the Remington 17...
I also own a Browning BPS 12ga - same design...

I have a 37 that i got from my wife's grandfather. super smooth action but the wood around the screw that holds the stock on is on its last leg so it hasn't gotten much use. The front sight is also more of a long short U than a sight, made in the 40's from what i can remember...

I have a couple of them.
I was just seeing if there was any information I could find on this one being it was a special order with the 18 inch barrel.
According to everything I have found the model 37 only came with bird length barrels back then.

Kind of a reach but, I don't suppose any 20 ga. were ordered or used as police or prison guard guns.
Probably just a early , special order buck buster from when a gun company would /could cater to a customers wants.

I think There Awesome shotguns I started hunting with this gun in 20 ga loved it smooth and reliable
still have it , it was a hand me down from my Grandpa back in the 80s if I remember right he told me he got it in the mid 50s so its old but its still crushing ducks pheasant and Quail in Kansa with a Nephew

Nice, I have a few of the DSPS shottys, I recently picked up a satin nickel 8 shot at a local show for dirt cheap' I've been hunting one of those for a good long while.

There are some very serious Ithaca collectors out there that might help you find out more, I'll see if I can find one of the more active forums.
