Love me the .40. My carry round is a 155 gr traveling at a measured 1300FPS. I like the pop, I like shooting .40 and I have a ton of reloading stuff for it.

Have an eye on another but I am having some doubts. Many of us never intend to sell off a firearm but I will admit to having let go more than a few to board members. I see now some of the long time board members that are heavily into retirement now selling off some or most of their collections.

So .. while I dont collect or acquire for investment, they are ready cash if need be since they rarely loss value ... except maybe the .40?

So there is the question. Is purchasing another .40 stupid in that if I ever need to turn it into cash .. I may not be able to or have to take a fair loss. Gun I am looking hard at isnt cheap. The same one is available in 9mm but truth is .. Its just not as fun for me to shoot 9 as it is .40

Can you buy the 9 and swap barrels? I did this, although the other way 40 to 9, on a couple of mine.

LE trade in guns is where .40 shines (as does .357Sig), money wise. You can get some absolute bargains, particularly on Sig metal framed guns. Sig 226 in 9mm is hard to find under $750-800, but you can get .40 versions for under $400. It won't stay that way. I remember the days of $125-150 12ga. LE trade ins, which is definitely not the case right now. I think the same thing will happen with the .40cal guns. It will eventually go up in price, although it won't match the appreciation of a 9mm version.

I do hear what you are saying and agree with you on .40cal guns. You will not get the most money out of them. The nice thing is many .40cal guns can have a 9mm barrel added, which helps to minimize that difference. While it will still appreciate, you will get 10-20% less in value when it get time to sell. Unless it's a really rare version of the gun, like say a .40 Browning Hi-power? Although I'm not sure that is the case as 9mm Hi-powers go for a pretty penny and I regret selling my Browning 9mm Hi-power for $400 or so 20 years ago.

No, not stupid
You like shooting 40, keep going with another piece you like.
Return question, I’ve only shot the 180gr, does the 155 have lighter perceived recoil for you?

Nothing wrong with .40 a lot of old timers bitch about them. Hand load it will shoot lighter than 9 with a heavier bullet. Had a STI Edge in .40 loved it.

.40 barrels can be swapped for .357Sig and 9mm. I've got a few .40s I have conversion barrels for. Or, get an entire slide with another caliber. Unless of course, the gun you're looking at doesn't allow for that sort of thing. If it doesn't, I wouldn't bother getting it.

The 155 gr underwood that I carry or the 155 "SD" ammo I have home rolled are at the top of the chart so its not a fair comparison. They are HOT and give a quick hard snap. Very controllable with a good high hold and very accurate. The home rolled stuff is a flame thrower but the Underwood is nice without the flash.

I will be honest .. In .40 store bought range ammo or my own home rolled range ammo I honestly dont notice a big difference between say 165 gr and 180.

I notice weight difference more in .45 where I can feel the difference between say a 185 and a 230 but in .40 I dont pick it up much. I grab whatever bullets are available.

I was thinking about selling guns or I should say, guns I have sold. Which got me to thinking what is the current best buys. I bought Romanian made AKs in the $200-300 ranges, SKS for under $100, Walther P1 9mm (P38 clone) for $350ish, Ithaca 37 LE trade ins for $150-200, etc. At the time, they weren't a steal, but the going price. So what will I miss not buying now?

The LE .40 trade ins are on that list. I would have gotten a Sig 226R in .40, except I found a 9mm for cheap and I already have a factory threaded barrel in 9mm. But the Sig 229R in .40 are dirt cheap right now as are the S&W .40 M&P pistols.

Along those lines, I think the Turkish MP5 clone (although in 9mm) is going to be something I will regret not buying. I'm just waiting on some projects at work (I design/sell pools & landscape) to finish up so I can collect some commission checks. Hopefully the MP5 clones keep flowing. I also picked up a PSA KS-47 lower (AR in 7.62x39mm that uses AK mags), as I figure the lower can sit until I get an upper or harvest the parts off the current 7.62 AR upper I have. A Turkish Hi-power clone is definitely on my short list and the nickel framed on looks good to me.

I have a 229 and its an excellent gun I shoot very well but have been lusting after a HK P2000 in DA/SA in 40.
