This is some new code I'm experimenting with to bring in fresh, relevant content to the site. I'm keeping it all in one specific area - but just wondering how you guys like it. I can't control how often it's updated, as it will pull in anything the site publishes.

Right now, I have Military Arms Channel YT videos going in (appx 1-2 per week) and "The Truth About Guns" blog posts, reviews, etc... going in. Those are much more frequent; several per day.

I'd like to get feedback on whether you find this useful, annoying or somewhere in between.

I had even contemplated adding one for the Politics area, but can't find one that's a great fit - and they do a LOT of updates, so I don't want to saturate the "Active Topics" link.

I thought I saw one the MAC videos get repeated but maybe someone had replied to it to bump it.

I like it. I don't do the best job of keeping up with all the new stuff that's coming out anymore. I've watched a few of the videos that were posted because they caught my attention.

I thought it was some kind of spam at first due to the frequency, then I clicked on one and saw that it was on a firearm topic. I have watch a few of them, I think it is worth it.
Now that I know it was intentional, I will look at more of them.

I'm with Desert Rat, now with the explanation of not being spam I'll be more likely to click on it, some of the subjects caught my eye but was reluctant to take a look.

Seeing poster as RSS makes it not spam but members wouldn't know until this thread. I think it's a great idea.

I almost clicked the report button the first time I looked at it. But for me, way to much crap. I like guns but they are not my life. I'll rarely use that forum.

I think its a great idea. I didn't know we could comment like a regular topic and thought is was just a feed. I get the outdoors ones in my email but don't often click them as I don't want to generate more spam mail by doing so. This way I can still read them and comment too. I like it. As long as they are segregated from the regular member areas so as not to flood an area with bot traffic...

I debated many ways of putting them in there. The benefits are that you get get relevant, news and be allowed to comment and discuss them with other AZS members. I originally experimented in putting them in separate forums, but to the point of some users here, I didn't want the auto-created-RSS topics to overshadow user-created topics, so I decided that putting them all in one sub-forum would be best so users can ignore them if they want. I added the tags to the beginning of the topics so you know they are RSS feeds. The actual content of them is not controlled by me, so I can't import an entire article. I did get the MAC videos to embed, so you can watch them without even leaving AZS.

There are other RSS feeds I like and want to use, but some of them have some bugs I need to work though before I look at them. I am also trying to get a balance - I don't want to get TOO many going, and the ones I do put up, I want them to be useful and pertinent.

I thought they were spam also, now that I
know they aren't, I will read/click on them. Thanks for letting us know.

What would really be nice is if there weren't 400 different topic categories. There were too many in the last AZS and it's almost doubled on this version.

Obviously you're exaggerating to make a point.
There are less on this than on the old site, but very close regardless. So to your comment; why is it an issue for you (not even sure what it has to do with this topic, but I'll indulge)?

It's not like there's a ton of activity on this forum, and you can see that be the number of categories that have fewer than 10 posts. I'm not suggesting the layout of the last site was great as it was a bit obnoxious in its own right and I didn't count the number of categories on the last site, but I remember one main firearm-related category and one off-topic. Now there's off topic general, off topic political, off topic outdoors, off topic technology. The number of categories on the classifieds has grown too with a separate section for accessories in handgun, shotgun, and rifle. It's a pain to sift through all these different categories to find a thread that's interesting. What generally happens is I check a couple, realize there hasn't been anything new, and then just leave.

I'm on accurateshooter quite a bit and there are 40k+ members with a 100k threads and over a million posts, and somehow they keep that forum organized with only 17 categories, when this site has 12 just in the classifieds. I get that site is more niche than this one, but I think fewer general categories with more threads is better than more specific categories with less threads.

A lot of the latest topic posts in that forum have been doubles, just me?

Also why not just use new posts and see whats new that way? I don't notice all the separate forums because I don't click on any of them. Just hit new posts, scroll through a few pages and done.

Other.

I'm not against them, but they're typically stuff I won't read. I've even tried to find a way to unsubscribe from the reviews subforum as a result, but it doesn't look like it can be done. Not necessarily a nuisance, but it would make it easier for me to filter the content I might be interested in.

There is a bit much but if they have there own area who cares just seems if someone post in there it would get buried quick.
