Has anyone seen the amount of stores that FRYS/KROGERS want to close in Arizona and the locations?

Sure Albertson/Safeway is more expensive usually, but Bashas would be your only other place to shop that I know of.
If you don't like the idea of a store closing so close to your house, what can you do?

Bashas' sold to some Cali chain a couple years ago. Food City was part of their chain.

We often go to Ranch Market.

Who could have seen this coming? Nearly anyone who understands or has experienced a huge corporate merger. Step #1 is cutting redundancies. Competing grocery stores are clustered together by population density...if all the competing grocery store companies suddenly aren't 'competitors', they close the redunadnt store(s). Albertsons and Safeway have always been higher priced as long as I can remember, 30+ years. Frankly, I'm amazed whenever I see one that is still open, especially if they are close to a Fry's or Bashas. I'm actually surprised the SEC/DOJ allowed the merger to happen.

You can thank the unions for how expensive stuff is at all those chains. If you ever get to talk with the warehouse workers and truck loaders at their distribution warehouses about how they rake in the dough, it'll piss you off.

Unions making things more expensive?! Who could have seen that happening?

Yeah, I just learned about that from a Basha's warehouse employee down in Chandler. ;)
Basha's prices are much higher than Safeway, IMHO. I always have thought Fry's and Safeway
were about on-par. However, WinCo is THEE low-price leader in 'chain' groceries right now. 8-)

On Southern, between Longmore and Alma School is a store called American Discount Foods.
It will make you want to purchase an entire standing, or chest style, freezer if you don't
already have one.
