So a potentially stupid question. It is being suggested that this will be a big one and they have started evacuation orders. I thought I read that some 300,000 people are ordered to evacuate. Um .. where the hell do 300,000 people go?!

Whole page of what to bring but .. bring where. That's a lot of people.

you probably weren't here when Katrina hit, but Phx absorbed quite a few of those "refugees" and many never went back...

Wild .. I think my number might have been low and they are talking a million people in another article. I just find it hard to imagine that everyone is financially fit enough to just high tail it out and find a new place to live on the quick. I set aside a little nest egg but not everyone has or could.

well, Daddy Sugar paid AZ to take them initially.

After the federal emergency funding ran out, most stayed and resorted to....other means to support themselves. Crime soared as did welfare expenditures. When Phx cut most off, they came south to Tucson and started the cycle again. Now Tucson has them too.

When I was young, I lived on the Texas coast in LaMarque/Texas City. When my mom knew there was a hurricane coming, she packed us up and went to my grandfather's place in W. Texas. Watched the news, came back when it was "safe". I thought everyone had those contingency plans, but in later years, I found out they don't. :o

When I was in NY I could have run to family in Jersey if there was a natural disaster but out here in AZ .. Guess I would just have to find a place to vacation for a week but .. asking a million people to do that is just amazing.

I know hurricanes and Florida go hand in hand so "Maybe" people set aside a run away fund. Dont know about anyone else... but there was certainly times in my life that running was financially just not an option. I was making food, gas and rent and not much more. Feel bad for them :(

I would have had to just ride it out and hope for the best.
