There are some companies local and otherwise I would like to follow. I would like to take advantage of their alternate to Craigslist to sell junk I am tired of locally.

I tried facebook once YEARS ag at the request of a friend and didnt really understand it but the very worst and freakiest thing was I started to have Ex girlfriends from back in the day contact me and people I had moved on from years earlier. It was WEIRD.

If I haven't talked to you since high school there is probably a reason.

So .. is there a way to use or at least follow content on facebook without some girl I had sex with 20 years ago contacting me to see how I have been!!

I have had a facebook account for years with an email addy that died (cox@home) years ago . They never killed that account: just make up some address and name let them track and tickle that one. If you have netflix "The Social Dilemma" explains why your contacts from years ago found you. The guys who wrote the "engagement algorithm" that keeps you tracked for eternity won't allow their kids to use it. It is designed to keep you looking and likely sent notification to those old girls to get them to look at you and they did. This is why not all people see the same news on facebook. It is evil.

Facebook (more accurately called Spybook) tracks an awful lot of stuff about you, and does it by putting cookies on your devices. So even though you might fool them by using a name other than your real one (which is against FB policies, but many people still get away with it, myself included), the big giant server farm at FB will still know you by your unique IP address and device signatures. They do this primarily to gather data on what you are interested in and shop for so as to market you to advertizers looking to buy "focused" ad pools at which to direct their solicitations.

For instance, using my computer that I also access both Google and Facebook, the moment I search for something on Google, then switch to checking my Facebook feed,...there will soon be an ad (almost immediately) for something seemingly related to what I was just looking at over on Google. So if I decide to research Democrat buttholes and spend a little bit of time cruising anti-gun websites or "progressive" websites,...upon getting back over on FB, I suddenly start getting ads for Democrat campaigns that need my cash, and crap like that.

So,...while it is possible to cruise Facebook with anonymity to the regular world,...that doesn't mean Facebook doesn't know who you are. In fact, if you have a few different FB accounts (I have 3) but make the mistake of accessing and using them from the same computer, FB instantly knows they are all the same person and permanently links them together. Mine are 1. my real name, 2. a fake name for anonymity, 3. a business name. If I were ever stupid enough to try to make threats or do something illegal under my fake name account,...the cops can simply ask FB who I really am and they can easily tell them. But so far FB has not told me to abandon either of them. Probably because I could claim there are more than 1 person living in my house and we simply access the same computer.

You don't have to use your real name...make a junk email acount with google, yahoo, etc, and make up a name.

Easy.

Dump Google, FB, Twitter all that crap! See all your old flames and high school buddies at the reunion.

There is a lot of hokey sh!t going on with FB(and other social media). I liked someone's photo on FB, on one of the Toyota pages, next thing you know, I am following them on Instagram automatically.

Everyone should watch "The Social Delimma" on Netflix as previously suggested.
That is just a small sampling of what is going on. And, it will only get worse...

Thanks everyone guess I will pass again!
Facebook Marketplace is killing Craigslist and OfferUp. It provides some of ease of mind and some security as you can at least get a feel for the person you are dealing with. And, if that guy screws you over, you might have some sort of means to get things resolved thru friends and family if he doesn't rectify it on his own. With Craigslist and OfferUp, you virtually have recourse.

Facebook Marketplace is my go to, although it has it's shortcomings that hopefully will get better. I still peruse Craigslist and OfferUp, oftentimes seeing the same ads.

Craigslist and OfferUp provides more anonymity for sellers who would rather not have potential buyers stalking their Facebook profile, pictures, and friends list

My son tells me even if you go vpn fake email etc etc etc....many of your apps provide custom fonts, these are loaded on demand, they have to know where to send the fonts to...so your nailed and tracking resumes.

Yes, create an account with different name, picture of a pet.

But first make sure you sign off all email relate account, as well any parts website, anything involving logging in with password.

Use incogito/private window.

There's more involved but that's to start.

Related to all this is this thing I just read that should scare the pants off you.

Your Credit Score Should Be Based on Your Web History, IMF Says

With more services than ever collecting your data, it’s easy to start asking why anyone should care about most of it. This is why. Because people start having ideas like this.

Oh, and here's news about the new Terms Of Service at Instagram (owned by Facebook and following there soon as well) that leaves no doubt at all that Zuckerberg is the new Hitler.
