I'm about to go on a trip out of state for 2 weeks and an online importer I've done business with in the past just listed some stuff I'm interested in and implied it's in short supply.

Would it be acceptable or appropriate to order it now and have the receiving FFL hold it for probably a week or longer?

Call and ask, their response is the only one that will be correct.

C2 held stuff for me for 3 weeks when I was gone on business. If it's an individual who runs their FFL service out of their house, they may not have room in the safe for it to stay too long, or may just generally not want to be responsible for it for that long.
But, the only way you'll know if by calling them.

My guy would probably hold stuff for me for months if I told him what was up..

I’ll hold it for a while if the person calls and explains, well really I’d have to anyway.
Once I accept a firearm, I’m responsible for it till it’s picked up, but it’s a courtesy when they call and explain the delay.
If I wanted to be an ass I could start charging storage fees if it went over say a month.
I have a fellow that deploys out of Conus, he’ll usually order in a few about a month before hitting stateside, I have no problem with that.

My one albatross is I have a 30-30 I scoped up for an older gentleman that passed away while I was doing it, and I’ve been unable to find any relatives to get it to, even had an LEO run a search with no luck.
Been in my safe for 2 years now.

I'd rather work with the selling party/FFL. If you come to an agreement to hold it pay by credit card so you can always contest the charges.
