Was having a discussion today with another gundude about what weapon to be packing in bear country. He proclaimed that a simple .45acp was sufficient as long as you were proficient with it.

I explained to him that while indeed, only hits count, consider what you are hitting. I'd feel adequately armed with an Oerlikon 20mm. Anything less than that, and I'd feel very naked facing one of these things.

And to think people actually go out and antagonize these things, on foot, with mere pistols!

As they told us almost a half century ago in USAF Arctic Survival school- Don't worry about killing a polar bear with your survival knife. If you can do that, just walk out. You don't need to be rescued.
