GSG 1911 Upgrades and interchangeable parts with 1911

I have a GSG 1911-22 that I have shot the crud out of, thousand upon thousands of rounds. Needless to say it is well used and worn. Unfortunately some of parts are cast out of pot metal. Unfortunately, I the female portion of the AMBI thumb safety broke. Anyone know if a standard 1911 safety will work, or am I going to need to fit one?

Any idea of what other parts I should plan on replacing while I am tearing this 1911-22 down?

For the record, I was able to get a Remington ambi safety to fit some minor fitting involved. Took about 20 min total with single file strokes to get a good positive fit. So apparently a regular 1911 grip safety and thumb safety will fit a Sig or GSG 1911-22 with minor fitting, like a regular 1911.

Seriously, though how the hell do you break or wear out a 1911 thumb safety?
