LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A Georgia congressional candidate in next month’s runoff will spend this weekend in the Gwinnett County jail, serving a four-day contempt of court order for not turning over her guns to authorities.

Brooke Siskin finished first in the Democratic primary for the Ninth Congressional District with 41 percent of the vote. She faces Army veteran Devin Pandy in August to see who will represent the Democratic Party in the race to fill Rep. Doug Collins’ open seat.

Her legal troubles stem from an earlier divorce and a bizarre March, 2020 encounter at a Peachtree Corners bank.

According to a Gwinnett County police report, employees at a BB&T bank branch called 911 because Siskin was creating a scene. She wanted to withdraw a certain amount of money from an account she had just opened and she was unhappy to learn she had to wait five days.

The police report said Siskin started to “scream and yell,” and refused to leave the bank.

When police took her into custody for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, they found a fully-loaded .380 handgun and additional ammunition in the glove compartment of her car.

Here’s why that’s a problem. A judge had ordered Siskin to surrender all firearms in an earlier divorce decree.

According to a 2010 police report, Siskin threatened her husband with a knife saying “You killed my life, now I’ll kill you.” He said she also hit him in the face “4 or 5 times.”

The couple divorced in 2012.

When Siskin refused to turn over a second handgun on Thursday, a Glock .22 plus ammunition, Gwinnett County Superior Court judge Deborah Fluker ordered Siskin taken into custody for “willful contempt of court.”

She’s due back before the judge Monday morning.

In a May debate sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club and aired on Georgia Public Television, Siskin touched on guns and claimed to be a victim herself.

“As well as protecting myself, with others I believe in that,” she said. “I’m also a victim of domestic violence. And having those opportunities is what most of the women and men in this district are facing.”

that's a tough one, she WAS ordered to surrender her firearms after threats on her ex's life, but if she truly was a victim of DV, she would have no way to protect herself.

she should have requested that her rights be restored.

It is always a good idea to melt down in a bank with a pistol in your pocket.
Sounds like a highly qualified candidate to serve the public.

That is a tough one for sure. Bottom line she made a threat, guy said the same thing he would be the subject of a Lifetime movie. Girls threaten violence and damage property all the time and are surprised when held accountable for their actions and speech.

this is more accurate

I think this would be difficult unless she got a felony. Felons have avenues of having rights restored in most places but usually misdemeanants do not. A source although I'm not sure how accurate. We can only speculate, since we aren't god and weren't there. Given her actions at the bank the charges levied against her were probably justified. However I have also seen people poke and prod someone to the point of an altercation just so they could play victim for the courts. Most of the time I've seen this in cases where child custody is involved. Make someone break record/call the cops and then get custody based on said history. I'm not a lawyer.

The way I read it , the pistol and ammunition was found in the glove box of her car.

Women be cray cray. I've met a lot of them, I've dated many of them. I've worked for a few of them. I've heard them say crazy crazy stuff when the estrogen overload kicks in. I would not want any women in politics unless there's no other decent choice. This is a woman who has no business being in any position of power or to make decisions for other people. I hope like he** a sane GOP candidate steps up in a hurry and takes advantage of this or that seat is blue.

The incident was 10 years ago and the divorce was 8+ years ago- ancient history in my book. However the divorce judge indicated she had to turn over all guns- was that the same as a conviction for DV? Did she comply at the time? Was it temporary or permanent? Did she buy more in the last few years? Too many unanswered questions to make a judgement. Good to see a Democ-rat get a taste of their own medicine...

Opps, unarmed meltdown in bank.
Just another Tuesday in Merrica!

So much unclarity with this case. She was ordered to give up her firearms...does that mean forever? She obviously is not a convicted felon

Maybe they were considered marital assets that were to be split by a judge's ruling?

Definitely something to watch. Lots of questions because there are a lot of contradicting information. On the “yellow sheet” doesn’t it say something about not involved in domestic violence? Does that mean once involved, rights are lost permanently? Lots of questions

Yep, thanks to Lautenthief amendment, any conviction for misdemeanor domestic violence or a judges order regarding domestic violence means you lose your 2nd amendment rights forever or until re-instated in a court of law.
