Old school debit and credit card skimmers used to capture your account data and steal your money USED TO BE kinda obvious if you were looking out for them. They were hard plastic new fascias that would be stuck or glued on over the existing card slot and even the keypad.

But just like all other electronic technology, skimmers are getting smaller and slimmer. They now have gotten to the point where they can be inserted into the card slot of an ATM,...totally hidden,...totally internal to the actual machine,...so that you can't tell that your ATM is rigged to rip you off.

So far, these have been encountered only in New York. But that will change. As these migrate out west, they will no doubt soon be in L.A., and then here.

One of the benefits I guess of marrying someone who is even older than I am. The wife wont use ATM machines, I had to drag her to paying a few bills over the net but she still pays 99.9% by check. If she wasnt afraid of fire .. I think we would have our money in a mattress.
