Hi. Received the 1911 from my grandfather about 25 yrs ago. I’m looking to have the finish on it returned back to original so it looks new and fresh again. Any suggestions on where to take it locally to have it worked on? I’m in the West Valley, but don’t mind driving to get the job done. Thanks in advance to all replies!

Or would it better to just leave as-is since they’re only “original” one time?

If it has already been re-finished, like he had it chromed, it has already lost massive value, so it wouldn't really hurt to have it redone.

If it is in original condition, leave it alone. There is a special place in hell for people who re-finish vintage WWII-era 1911's and other similar firearms.

If it was me, I would keep it as original. It will hold value, imo, by keeping it original.
If you have an overwhelming desire to get it refinished, Robbie Barkman, who used to own ROBAR, owns Coating Technologies LLC. That is where ROBAR had customers firearms refinished in all the coatings that they offered

Definitely agree, the right call is to leave it as-is. Get a new one to beat on and give the old one a coat of oil to preserve it and take it out now and again and enjoy it as it is, warts and all.
